Vicky Kaushal’s First Look as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in Indian Historical Epic ‘Chhaava’ Unveiled (EXCLUSIVE)

Maddock Films, a prominent film production company in India, recently revealed the initial glimpse of their upcoming historical movie titled “Chhaava.” In this film, Vicky Kaushal portrays the iconic Maratha warrior king, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.

For the first time, Maddock Films is diving into the historical epic genre with their project, starring Kaushal along with Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna. Laxman Utekar leads the production team in creating this movie, which tells the story of Sambhaji Maharaj, who became king in 1681. The film’s visuals were unveiled on the anniversary of Sambhaji’s coronation.

During a pivotal time in Indian history, it was Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the firstborn son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who ruled the Maratha Empire. Renowned for his military skills and tactical wisdom, Sambhaji’s rule was characterized by unceasing conflicts with the Mughal Empire and other dominant forces. His tale stands out due to his valiant efforts in protecting the Maratha kingdom and his remarkable bravery in the face of hardships. He was also affectionately known as Chhaava, symbolizing a courageous lion’s cub.

Kaushal’s transformation for the role includes elaborate period costumes and royal regalia.

Dinesh Vijan, founder of Maddock Films and producer of ‘Chhaava’, expresses deep pride in narrating India’s Chhaava tale on-screen. This film is a tribute to the indomitable spirit of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, whose story has been unjustly overlooked. Our goal with this movie is to honor his remarkable legacy and celebrate the iconic figure he was.

2024 was a smashing year for Maddock as he basked in the success of sci-fi romantic comedy “Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya,” the horror-comedy “Munjya,” and the sequel to 2018’s hit horror-comedy, “Stree 2.” The studio has now announced an exciting lineup of eight films in the horror-comedy genre, all connected and scheduled for release over the next four years.

The “Chhaava” theatrical release is scheduled for Feb. 14.
