Ridley Scott’s ProdCo RSA Revisits Real Story Behind ‘Black Hawk Down’ in New Netflix Documentary (EXCLUSIVE)

RSA, the production company founded by Ridley Scott, is preparing to delve into the Battle of Mogadishu once more with a fresh Netflix documentary titled “Black Hawk Down: Surviving the Mission.

The film, titled “Leaving Afghanistan” and helmed by director Jack MacInnes, delves into the authentic accounts of the 1993 conflict between American and Somalian troops – a battle that served as the inspiration for Scott’s 2001 movie.

As a film aficionado, I had the privilege of watching a masterpiece that garnered no less than four Oscar nominations, one of which was for its exceptional direction. This cinematic gem boasted an illustrious ensemble cast, featuring Josh Hartnett, Ewan McGregor, Hugh Dancy, and Jason Isaacs – just to name a few. I must say, the collective talent on display in this film is truly something to behold.

It also featured Orlando Bloom and Tom Hardy in the first flush of their careers

As an enthusiast, I can’t wait to delve into the captivating three-act series that unravels the genuine happenings inspiring the movie. It promises a compelling narrative experience, enriched by personal accounts and insights from those who lived through the events themselves.

“Survivng Black Hawk Down” will premiere on the streamer on Feb. 10.

Jamal Osman and Emma Supple serve as the creators for this project, while Dominic Crossley-Holland and Tom Pearson hold executive producer roles. It’s important to note that Scott, who co-founded RSA back in 1968 with his late brother Tony, is not contributing creatively to this specific endeavor.

Crossley Holland, head of RSA’s global unscripted division, is excited to share this captivating narrative with a fresh audience through Netflix, approximately 25 years since Ridley’s influential film. It’s an intense and emotional saga, and it’s striking to listen to the perspectives of both American forces and Somalis for the first time,” he said.

RSA, with locations in Los Angeles, London, Amsterdam, New York, and Hong Kong, has broadened its lineup of unscripted productions in recent times. This expansion includes the Netflix documentary “Robbie Williams,” helmed by Joe Pearlman, as well as an upcoming Billie Jean King documentary, under the direction of Liz Garbus and Elizabeth Wolff.
