As the highly-anticipated second season of “Severance” on Apple TV+ approaches, the show’s actors have outdone themselves with a clever marketing strategy: they’ve reconstructed the Lumon office setting, but one crucial character conspicuously fails to make an appearance.
On Tuesday, January 14th, I happened to wander through Grand Central Station and had the good fortune of spotting the Severance cast in action, working out their on-screen day jobs.
In a simulated Lumon workspace, encased within a glass structure, Adam Scott, Britt Lower, Zach Cherry, Tramell Tillman, Patricia Arquette (and director Ben Stiller) performed their Severance characters.
It’s clear that fans were taken aback by the ingeniousness of the marketing strategy designed for the Season 2 launch on January 17. However, it seemed peculiar to some that one Macrodata Refiner wasn’t involved in the promotion.
Irving wasn’t included in the Severance recreation
During the usual workday scenes filmed at the MDR office, John Turturro’s character, Irving, was conspicuously absent.
One Reddit user inquired, “Where is Irving?”, while another playfully responded, “It seems Irving had a little nap and overslept for his duty.

In no time at all, speculation about possible explanations arose regarding Irving’s vanishing act, as several people theorized that an event could occur in Season 2 that would make sense of his absence.
“Irv not there, I think it could mean he gets wiped or doesn’t come back,” one suggested.
Some took it a step further, implying that such an action might be relevant in Season 3, given that it has already been announced.
I can’t help but wonder if this moment could potentially be from Season 3! It’d surely be a twist, something only this show would dare to include. If true, it’d make sense why we didn’t see Irving in Season 3 since it’s confirmed that Season 2 was John’s last.
Reflecting on that statement, it seems that back in 2024, Turturro himself hinted at not reprising his role for more seasons after the second installment. He told Variety then, “I’ve given my second round, but I feel like I’ve had a satisfying feast.
It’s suggested that he may have left at the end of last season, which implies that his contract might not be active anymore and his enthusiasm for participating in promotional activities could be waning.
