Faran Tahir Joins Marvel’s Vision Series, Reprising ‘Iron Man’ Villain Role

The forthcoming Vision series from Marvel Studios, featuring Paul Bettany, will delve back into its roots. Actor Faran Tahir has been added to the show, reprising his role as Raza, a character he initially played in the studio’s first movie release, “Iron Man” (2008).

Bettany will be back, portraying the spectral white version of the synthezoid he initially brought to life in the 2015 movie “Avengers: Age of Ultron”. Meanwhile, James Spader will revisit his role as the malevolent AI character from the same film. Lastly, Todd Stashwick (“Star Trek: Picard”) has been cast for an undisclosed part.

Bringing Tahir’s character back into play, approximately two decades since his initial debut, would set a record for the longest gap between appearances within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This is all the more remarkable given that Raza, who famously abducted Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark, the event that ultimately led to Stark’s transformation into Iron Man, was thought to have perished halfway through “Iron Man” at the hands of the film’s antagonist, Obadiah Stane (portrayed by Jeff Bridges). However, demise in the MCU is seldom a final fate; for instance, Bettany’s character, Vision, met his end in 2018’s “Avengers: Infinity War,” only to be revived in the 2021 Disney+ series “WandaVision.

According to exclusive reports from EbMaster, Terry Matalas, known for his work on “Star Trek: Picard” and “12 Monkeys,” is confirmed as the executive producer and showrunner for the Vision series, with its premiere scheduled for 2026.

Tahir is not only an alumnus of “Trek,” but he also portrayed the captain of the U.S.S. Kelvin in the opening scene of the 2009 film “Star Trek.” In addition, his acting credits span other films like “Elysium” and “Escape Plan,” as well as TV shows such as “The Old Man,” “12 Monkeys,” “Scandal,” and “Once Upon a Time.
