As a movie reviewer, I find myself compelled to share my thoughts on an unexpected drama unfolding in the realm of late-night television. Last night, it seems Donald Trump took to Truth Social, firing off a series of tweets targeting Seth Meyers. In his words, he dubbed the host “dull-witted” and “untalented.”
Adding fuel to the fire, Trump also called on Comcast, NBC’s parent company, to pay dearly for what he perceives as “political hits.” This intriguing turn of events has certainly added a touch of suspense to the usual late-night entertainment landscape.
Trump tweeted, “How poorly is Seth Meyers doing on NBC, a network controlled by a truly unscrupulous team – Keep in mind, they also run MSNBC. The other night, I found myself unwillingly watching Marble-Mouthed Meyers for the first time in months, and each time I watch this individual, I feel compelled to express how unintelligent and talentless he is, essentially just filling a spot for the corrupt organization that owns Comcast.
Trump continued his outburst: “These individuals ought to be shelling out substantial funds for the privilege of offering ‘in-kind’ donations to the extreme Democrat party. These aren’t performances or amusement, they are solely political attacks, every single time, against me and the Republican Party. Comcast should face a hefty penalty for this!
EbMaster has reached out to representatives for Meyers and Comcast for comment.
As a devoted movie-goer, I’ve noticed that many mainstream media platforms have faced relentless criticism from Trump, causing unease within the industry. There’s a rising apprehension that during his next term in office, he might seek to entangle these media outlets with legal issues. Recently, he’s taken significant actions such as filing a colossal defamation suit against CBS News and “60 Minutes,” and settling a defamation lawsuit with Disney, following his legal action against ABC News due to remarks made by anchor George Stephanopoulos.
CBS maintained that the interview was untampered with, deeming the lawsuit baseless. Meanwhile, Disney pledged a generous donation of $15 million to his presidential foundation and museum.
As a dedicated fan, I’ve been thoroughly enjoying Meyers’ show that just marked its 10th year on-air, masterfully blending comedy with political satire. Known for his vocal opposition to Trump, the former “Saturday Night Live” star has been using his platform boldly and wittily. While his program is shielded by the First Amendment, allowing him to express his discontent with Trump freely, he must steer clear of defamation, inciting violence, and maintaining network TV standards.
NBC, functioning as a broadcast network, is bound by Federal Communications Commission guidelines. Trump has been proactive in pushing for the enforcement of these rules, such as the Equal Time Rule that mandates equal airtime for all qualified political candidates campaigning for the same position. In November, just before the election, NBC was compelled to offer Trump equal time following an unexpected appearance by his opponent Kamala Harris on “Saturday Night Live.” As a result, Trump received an advertisement slot following a Nascar race and NFL game.
