Valorant dev reveals anti-cheat change coming amid massive ban wave

As a dedicated Valorant gamer, I’m excited to share that the big boss of their anti-cheat system has spilled the beans about some major changes coming our way. It seems like they’re getting serious about dealing with the increasing number of hackers in our game. Can’t wait to see the difference!

Initially, when Valorant was introduced, Riot Games proudly showcased their strong cheat prevention system — Vanguard. They’ve also provided rewards for individuals who manage to discover weaknesses in this anti-cheat system, potential hackers might exploit.

As a dedicated player of Vanguard, it’s frustrating to admit that despite its might, cheaters have managed to sneak their way into the game. Over the past few years, Riot Games has taken a firm stance against these unscrupulous hackers, banning millions of them from the realm. However, during this recent holiday season, I’ve noticed an alarming increase in their activities.

Due to the rise in hacking incidents, there were many complaints from gamers asking Riot Games to take action. Now, moving into 2025, it seems that this issue has been tackled effectively.

Valorant has had tonnes of new cheaters in the last month

Phillip Koskinas, the chief of anti-cheat at Riot Games, disclosed that over 90,000 individuals using cheats have been prohibited by them as early as the year 2025.

On X, previously known as Twitter, a Riot developer shared: “During the holidays, there was a surge in VALORANT cheaters, but we’re glad to be returning and ready to dish out their consequences instead of gifts.” The post hinted at an imminent change.

Since dishonest players never pause, we truly appreciate this chance for a brief rest – it gives us the strength to strike even stronger later on. Keep in mind that upcoming penalties may involve rolling back ranked progress.

During the holidays, there was an increase in VALORANT cheaters, but we’re back and thrilled to be dishing out their punishments.

Cheating never rests, so thank you for allowing us a brief pause—we can now strike harder. Soon, penalties will not only involve bans, but also ranked demotions.

Koskinas was asked to explain the functioning of the ranked rollbacks, following an instance where a fan questioned how it would play out if they unintentionally had a random cheater on their team.

He said, “Yours will remain safe while they’ll have to deal with their own again. There might be a bit of inflation, but after running the numbers, I believe we’ll manage just fine.

You can have your own, while they’ll face retribution for their actions. Our calculations show that it won’t lead to significant inflation, and we should manage fine.

It’s been noted that hackers appear in various shapes and sizes, yet the amount of recurring offenders getting banned is significant.

Players expressed satisfaction as they observed that an action against cheaters has commenced. Essentially, it seems that many had been correct in their suspicions, and there were numerous individuals exploiting the system during the holiday season.
