A recently released movie made from previously undiscovered footage has been creating quite a stir within the horror genre. The unique aspect of this film is that it’s exclusively being shown in theaters, so it won’t be available for online streaming.
Enthusiasts of horror films are constantly on the hunt for something new and exciting, such as the chilling micro-budget thrills offered by Skinamarink, or the intense slaughter scenes starring Art the Clown across the three Terrifier films.
Currently, a horror movie titled “It’s Hard to Get Any Better Than This” is making waves, being one of the hottest topics in the horror genre. This is largely because of its unique distribution method.
They’ve promised exclusively to showcase It Doesn’t Get Any Better in movie theaters, so there won’t be a home video or digital release of the film.
Why It Doesn’t Get Any Better Than This will never go to streaming
In the process of creating a trailer for the movie “It Doesn’t Get Any Better Than This”, directors Nick Toti and Rachel Kempf included a notice at the end, explaining that unfortunately, the film will not be available online. Instead, audiences are encouraged to watch it in theaters, marking the start of its journey.
For approximately 15 years, I’ve been crafting films, yet barely any of them have garnered recognition or monetary success. None of these movies seem to have stirred any interest, as I shared with Variety.
However, the situation changed when word about the disclaimer spread, as Toti clarified: “In this case, it was almost like saying, ‘This is a horror film, so it naturally attracts a larger audience.’ Unfortunately, this has been an issue with every movie I’ve ever made. Since there are dedicated found footage fans out there, we can easily reach them.
However, we came to understand that there was a tricky aspect to it as well, an aspect that could potentially be manipulated. Achieving movie success wasn’t our primary objective, but once the movie began gaining traction, there were significant turning points for us.
In the summer of 2023, the two of them traveled across the Midwest while bringing the film along. After that, they attended various film festivals, with one being featured in the distinguished ‘Midnight Madness’ segment at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Additional viewings took place, leading up to the film being shown at ten different Alamo Drafthouse cinemas nationwide last week, spanning various cities across the United States.
The found-footage plot explained
According to TIFF’s description, Nick Toti and Rachel Kempf are big fans of horror films. When they notice that the run-down house they recently purchased shows clear indications of a haunted past, they find it hard to believe their good fortune.
In the film “It Doesn’t Get Any Better Than This,” there’s a fascinating blend of reality and acting as Toti and Kempf portray themselves. The movie was filmed in a duplex they recently bought, not only serving as a set but also as a personal investment, since they were exploring potential locations for another project at the same time.
According to Variety, Toti was often intrigued by Kempf’s seances with her friend Christian. Consequently, they crafted a semi-improvisational film centered around this theme. In this movie, a duo named Nick and Rachel purchase a dilapidated house in Kirksville, Missouri. Strange occurrences ensue, becoming even more bizarre after Rachel and her friend Christian hold a seance within the house.
How to watch It Doesn’t Get Any Better Than This
Even though this film won’t be released on Blu-ray, DVD, or streaming platforms, its creators have promised to screen the movie as long as there’s demand, so keep an eye out for it showing up in a theater near you in the future.
Currently, there’s no announcement about a global launch, but enthusiastic viewers are invited to submit a screening request form. Kempf mentioned to Variety that “We’ll do our utmost to make it happen.
