Dr. Tara Narula, a long-standing cardiologist who has provided insights to various networks such as CBS, CNN, NBC, and Oprah Winfrey’s magazine, has been appointed as the Chief Medical Correspondent at ABC News. This role has gained more significance in recent years as news organizations strive to provide viewers with accurate information about healthcare and treatments, given that scientific research has seen a rise in politicization.
Dr. Narula works as an associate director at Lenox Hill Hospital’s women’s heart program in Manhattan, which is where she’s also a board-certified cardiologist. In addition to this, she’s an associate professor of cardiovascular medicine at the Zucker School of Medicine, Hofstra/Northwell. She holds the position of director for communications at the Katz Institute of Women’s Health at Northwell and is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
In the years 2022 and 2023, she worked as a medical correspondent for CNN. After that, she started contributing to NBC News.
Dr. Narula’s arrival at ABC News has us thrilled! He will work collaboratively across our shows and channels, contributing to our promise of delivering audiences reliable health and medical news, as stated by Debra OConnell, president of ABC News Group and Disney Entertainment Networks.
ABC News has promoted Dr. Jen Ashton to a more significant position within their team. Previously, Dr. Ashton was a co-host on the daytime news program “GMA3,” where she kept viewers updated about the most recent coronavirus pandemic news and updates.
As a movie buff diving deep into the realm of science documentaries, I find myself frequently grateful for experts like Dr. Sanjay Gupta from CNN and Jonathan LaPook at CBS News. These knowledgeable individuals skillfully break down complex biological, disease, and scientific concepts for us laypeople. However, their work has become increasingly challenging in recent times due to the rampant spread of misinformation about various aspects, including treatment and efficacy of medicines, through social media platforms.
Following her graduation from Stanford University with dual degrees in economics and biology, Dr. Narula went on to earn a medical degree at the USC Keck School of Medicine. After completing her residency in internal medicine at Harvard University’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital, she furthered her training in cardiology at New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center. Since 2010, Dr. Narula has been a part of the Lenox Hill Heart & Vascular Institute of New York, where she continues to offer outpatient consultative care.
Dr. Darien Sutton, the medical correspondent for ABC News, will keep delivering reports on various ABC News shows and channels, just like Dr. Narula does.
Dr. Narula expressed his gratitude for being part of one of the most reliable news organizations, stating this in a released statement. He recalls his father’s teachings as a physician, which instilled in him that serving in the medical field is an honor. Now, he eagerly anticipates sharing updates on groundbreaking health and medical discoveries related to wellness and resilience, aiming to assist people in leading fulfilling lives.
