Dexter: Original Sin Episode 6 recap – Things get personal for Miami Metro

In Dexter: Original Sin Episode 6, titled ‘The Thrill of Slaughter,’ I, as Dexter, zeroed in on Levi Reed, but then, a massive turn of events hit the case hard. It turned out that one of Miami Metro’s top cops was secretly entangled in everything – a chilling revelation for me and the team (spoiler alert: details may disturb your peace!).

We’ve moved past the midpoint in the ’90s-based Dexter prequel series, and the budding serial killer is rapidly developing his skills with each passing day.

In Episode 5 of Original Sin, Dexter successfully convinced Harry to go along with his scheme to eliminate Levi Reed, a possible serial killer who escaped due to a technicality. However, there’s another serial killer active, and Captain Spencer is about to find himself directly involved.

In this article, you’ll find a comprehensive summary of the events unfolding in Dexter’s sixth episode titled “Original Sin.” As expected, matters are becoming increasingly intricate.

Captain Spencer’s son is kidnapped in Dexter: Original Sin Episode 6

At the outset of Episode 6, things appear grim for Captain Spencer. As he ex-wife and son prepare for a journey in their vehicle, an unknown attacker assaults her. Swiftly and silently, their son is taken from them.

As I’m engrossed in my latest gaming session, Deb drops a bombshell: she’s fixing us up on a double date with her new guy, Gio, and Sofia, her BFF who seems smitten by me. To give her reserved brother a cool edge for Gio, she’s even picked out my outfit!

First off, Dexter needs to examine a fresh crime scene before anything else. It’s a case involving suffocation, and he suspects it might be connected to two other victims whose bodies he previously photographed. Although the methods of these crimes vary, they share a common theme: the killer enjoyed prolonging each murderous act.

When Harry finds himself becoming overly involved, he advises his friend to take a step back and let the investigators handle the brainstorming instead.

In a subsequent flashback scene, Harry struggles with the remorse stemming from his romantic entanglement with Laura. He goes so far as to express to her that it would be best if they ended their relationship now that Harry’s wife is expecting.

Miami-Met descends into chaos

At Miami-Met, Dexter is devising a strategy to eliminate Levi Reed. However, things take an unexpected turn as Captain Spencer learns about his son’s abduction, causing turmoil.

He’s utterly terrified, and matters only worsen when his former spouse and her new partner unexpectedly appear. A confrontation between the two men ensues, forcing them to be separated. To make things even more challenging, his ex-wife has very little information about the individual who assaulted her.

Following Dexter’s brief pursuit of Reed, he heads to work the following day, where Camilla proposes that he’s welcome to borrow her boat whenever he needs it, especially if he intends to utilize it for socializing with women. (It’s worth noting that this boat will play a significant role in future events.)

Upon running into Harry, he shares that there’s still a chance they can locate Nicky, Spencer’s son, as it wasn’t until 12 days following the kidnapping that Judge Powell’s son’s body was found. This suggests that there’s a possibility Nicky might still be alive.

In another flashback scene, Harry secretly hears Laura attend a meeting with a criminal organization. Matters become intense as they publicly amputate the finger of a traitor in her presence, yet she manages to escape unhurt. This gruesome incident leaves an impact on both her and Harry, causing them both to feel disturbed.

Dexter goes on a date

On that particular evening, Dexter and his sister Deb embark on a shared date. The beginning is rather bumpy for him, but eventually, he finds his footing and even begins to show interest in Sofia.

When Deb encounters another man, Gio becomes noticeably agitated, yet the company chooses to overlook this incident and proceeds to have an enjoyable evening. (Meanwhile, Dexter experiences an exceptionally delightful night as Sofia surprises him with a rather unanticipated token of affection in the restroom.)

Later, Deb manages to persuade her companions to join her in a plan to steal Tiffany’s newly acquired truck, their rival from the volleyball team. Excited by this turn of events, Dexter takes care of hot-wiring the vehicle. As Deb and Gio make off with the stolen truck, they decide to leave it deserted on the beach. During this time, Dexter gives Sofia a ride home, and she expresses her desire to see him again.

Harry has returned to work, growing more and more annoyed as he’s unable to contribute to the Spencer case following his demotion due to a blunder during the Levi Reed investigation. In another recollection, he has a heated discussion with Laura, who no longer wishes to serve as an informant after her recent close call.

The discussion between them comes to an abrupt halt as he urgently rushes off to the hospital due to his wife delivering their newborn daughter, Deb. Upon arrival, he learns that she is aware of his infidelity and demands an immediate end to the affair.

Dexter takes Levi Reed out

Later on, I found myself trailing Levi Reed once more under the cloak of darkness. Unfortunately, I ran into my coworker Clark outside a nightspot popular among the LGBTQ+ community. When Reed paused for a moment to relieve himself on the sidewalk, I inadvertently slipped up and bumped into him.

Lost in the moment, I didn’t realize I had a drug tucked away in my pocket. It fell out and Reed unknowingly ingested it. With a heavy heart, I led him back to my carefully prepared murder scene.

Upon waking, Reed finds himself restrained with plastic, at which point Dexter compels him to confess to murdering entire families. Moreover, Dexter informs Reed that if he were to eliminate him, Reed would then become Dexter’s third victim, thereby solidifying his status as a serial killer.

In a revealing statement, Reed admits his desire to watch the two men plead for their lives, yet simultaneously highlights that there isn’t much separating them from each other. Interestingly, Dexter shares this fondness for taking lives, albeit with a twist: he claims he only targets those who are not innocent. However, in a chilling turn of events, Reed meets an end when Dexter ends his life by stabbing him to death.

Return of the arm

At the office, Assistant Chief Borlee convenes a meeting with his staff to discuss details about the ongoing kidnapping case. Regrettably, their situation is grim as they have found no evidence at the crime scene, and their investigation has yielded few leads, save for one: a powerful cartel member named Rafael Campos, who had previously faced stern action from Captain Spencer and Judge Powell following his arrest.

Later on, Harry locates Spencer in his workplace and consoles him, assuring him that it’s impossible to eliminate all concerns regarding their children forever. Simultaneously, Nicky winds up in the same grimy cell where Judge Powell’s son was detained earlier. At present, he’s still alive.

The episode concludes as Dexter encounters some difficulties. On his way to the swamp to discard Reed’s corpse, he is halted by a police officer who informs him that the location is now an active crime scene. Remarkably, they have discovered Tony Ferrer’s arm – a significant clue that might trace everything back to Dexter.
