A theory about the character Lumon from the Apple TV series has been circulating among fans since its debut, yet this idea was recently contradicted by the show’s cast members. However, this doesn’t lessen the anticipation for Severance Season 2; in fact, it heightens it as we now have even more mysteries to unravel!
To put it simply, my excitement for Severance Season 2 is off the charts – it’s like nothing I’ve felt since Dylan eagerly awaits his waffle party. I believe many of you share this sentiment too.
For the past three years, Mark’s exclamation “She’s alive!” has left us on the edge of our seats with an unforgettable cliffhanger ending, and soon we’ll finally discover what comes next.
Prior to its airing on January 17, the cast of Severance has made efforts to disprove numerous theories that have surfaced since then, among them being speculations about the enigmatic and crucial nature of work at Lumon Industries.
Adam Scott calls Severance clone theory “boring”
Among the popular interpretations of Lumon’s purpose, some speculate it involves cloning humans. However, during an interview with Entertainment Weeky, Mark Scott (the main character in the series) stated that such an idea seems too mundane and unexciting for the storyline, implying it would make the show rather dull or uninteresting.
The theory, as explained, suggests that Lumon’s goal involves human cloning. I have a suspicion that Ms Casey might be a clone of Gemma, explaining her peculiar behavior.
This information might clarify why the goats are here (for cloning experiments) and what MDR is all about (it identifies irregularities in the genetic makeup of clone sequences).
However, Scott dismisses the idea, commenting, “It seems this is just how Lumon might handle things in a duller, less intriguing take on ‘Severance’.
Indeed, even though some may find this topic dull, it’s a fundamental idea that has been around since the premiere of Severance in 2022, and it significantly connects to numerous lingering queries within the series.
Lumon’s grand mission might resonate with the Eagans’ self-centered nature, as they strive for an immortal-like existence and seek influence on a global scale.
This sentiment echoes the awe-inspiring authority that Kier Eagan holds within Lumon’s writings: “You serve as my voice, enabling me to continue speaking even after I have lived for ten whole centuries.
Plus, cloning could just be the beginning.
In the final episode of Season 1, Jamie Eggan informs Helly that due to her actions, everyone worldwide will receive a Severance chip, implying they’ll all be like Kier’s offspring.
Lumon might be employing the chip to manufacture replicas of their employees who, due to their lack of free will, are simple to control and observe. These duplicates could potentially be used by the Eagan family for sinister intentions. (A la Ms. Casey)
Lumon are up to something even bigger in Severance Season 2
Actually, despite the mention of “justification,” you may assume I’m a little miffed by the “boring” comment, but that’s not the case at all. In fact, I’m quite thrilled about it!
If cloning seems ordinary in light of what Lumon is truly doing, it paves the way for a much more ominous, malevolent truth, one that promises to make Seasons 2 and beyond of Severance even more thought-provoking and astonishing than I had previously conceived.
Dan Erickson, as the showrunner, has confirmed that preparations for Severance Season 3 are underway, and he is aware of how the narrative will conclude.
Absolutely! That implies we might not find every solution in Season 2, but part of the excitement lies in searching for subtle hints and deeper interpretations within the intricate plot, surprising turns, and unusual conversations displayed in the series.
Though it’s enticing to seek every answer, since the clone theory has been debunked, there’s a vast realm for questioning and conjecture. What could be the Eagans’ motives? Why does Cobel seem so fixated on Mark? And what exactly are they doing on the goat floor that piques our curiosity so much?
To put it another way, Scott’s statement holds true. If every mystery in Severance Season 2 were solved by revealing clones, it would make the show as dull as a typical workday. However, since the Apple TV series continues to astonish us, and that’s exactly what we love about it!
Unless he’s bluffing, in which case, well played Mr Scott. They’ll make an Eagan out of you yet.
The second season of “Severance” will debut on Apple TV+ on January 17. You might also find interesting insights regarding the O&D department, and here’s a hint: Season 2 is already surpassing the original in some aspects.
