In the initial season of Marvel Rivals, a host of fresh characters and outfits are introduced, yet among the most significant alterations are the tweaks, or buffs and nerfs, applied to gameplay mechanics – unfortunately, an apparent enhancement for Wolverine has been overlooked.
It’s important to note that Marvel Rivals doesn’t always follow the original stories of its characters. For instance, Invisible Woman has invisibility, Hulk is tough and powerful, and Hawkeye excels with a bow – but for fairness, each character should be balanced. Pitting a small shark against Thor wouldn’t exactly result in a fair match, given that Thor is the God of Thunder. (In this hypothetical situation, Thor would likely win.)
Nevertheless, it appears that one figure endures the greatest share of lore problems, unfortunately, Wolverine. Granted additional resilience in season one, Marvel Rivals overlooked a crucial element of his persona, necessitating prompt amendment – his regenerative abilities.
But he already has regeneration?
Presently, Wolverine is categorized as a ‘B-rank’ character in our Marvel Rivals tier list due to his moderately strong attacks that were previously offset by his health issues. Notably, his health has been enhanced, but we also highlighted one significant shortcoming: his passive skill is significantly weaker than most other characters in the roster.
To put it simply, while Wolverine does possess regenerative abilities as depicted in the comics, his healing factor doesn’t seem to live up to the expectations set by the comic book version. His Regenerative Healing Factor, an inherent ability, restores 150-300 health over three seconds and removes all negative effects. Given that he has 350 health points, this is a significant boost. However, with a cooldown of 90 seconds, it’s not particularly useful in the game.
It’s not quite just, isn’t it, when a character famous for rapidly recovering from injuries is required to pause for a minute and a half, even in the worst-case scenario where he’s only halfway through his maximum health?
Essentially, though Wolverine possesses a regenerative ability, it’s so sluggish in its regeneration that it’s almost useless for him. Given his situation, he’d likely have perished before reaping the benefits of this feature more than once.
To enhance Wolverine’s overall performance, it would be beneficial to significantly decrease the cooldown time on his passive ability, ideally bringing it down to less than a minute. Alternatively, or in addition, giving him rapid health regeneration abilities could help him counteract minor attacks effectively. An ideal scenario would involve small regenerative powers that consistently grow over time. For example, if Wolverine’s health regenerated at the rate of approximately 10 points per second, he could fully recover within about 35 seconds. This would make him more resilient and competitive in combat scenarios.
Would that not make him too OP?
Carefully designed enhancements to Wolverine’s passive ability shouldn’t make him excessively powerful. If Marvel Rivals limit his regeneration to gradual improvement instead of sudden bursts, he can still be defeated – as long as there isn’t a Strategist present.
According to the Marvel Rivals community, it’s been expressed that Wolverine appears to be the character most unlike his original storyline in the game. Essentially, they’ve turned him into a carefree creature, similar to a honey badger.
Hey there, fellow gamer! From where I stand in the Marvel Rivals universe, ol’ Wolverine is falling short when it comes to raw power compared to other characters. Even with the current enhancements, it’s hard to see him climbing up to the S-tier anytime soon. To truly honor the unkillable, self-healing beast that he is – capable of taking down some formidable foes as per his legendary status – a significant boost to his regeneration abilities is what he deserves.
