YouTube star faces backlash after joking about Los Angeles wildfires

Internet personality and vocalist Meg Deangelis has drawn criticism due to a controversial Instagram post about the devastating wildfires in the Los Angeles region. Many users have branded her comments as insensitive and inappropriate.

As a gamer in LA, I’ve been finding it tough to ignore the ongoing struggle against the raging wildfires here. By January 10, 2025, these fires have already razed over 6,000 buildings and compelled thousands of residents to flee their homes. It’s a stark reminder that in this virtual world we often escape to, real-life challenges can be just as intense.

In my gaming terms, it feels like I’ve stumbled into an end-of-the-world scenario. Entire districts of this city seem to have gone up in smoke, just like when a boss level is razed in a game. The destruction here is unreal!

As a passionate follower, I’ve noticed that several local influencers have had to evacuate due to the devastating fires in their area, with some unfortunately becoming homeless as their homes and possessions were sadly engulfed by the flames. Yet, one influencer who relocated to LA is currently under fire for a post she shared on her Instagram Stories about this dire situation.

YouTuber Meg Deangelis blasted for “horrible” LA fires post

Meg Deangelis is a widely recognized YouTube personality boasting more than 4 million subscribers. Originally known for her frequent vlog posts, she has recently shifted her focus towards pursuing a musical career over the past few years.

On January 8, 2025, Deangelis shared a selfie on her Instagram stories with the caption, “When I fled New York City due to the cold, but now it’s this city that’s actually catching fire.

I swiftly shared a snapshot of my gameplay on Reddit, only to be met with harsh comments labeling my words as “awful” and “offensive.

“Omg girl, read the room,” one wrote.

Oh my, that’s truly tragic and senseless. It appears that my friend’s home has been tragically destroyed by fire! Regrettably, it seems there have been casualties – both human lives lost and unfortunate incidents involving pets and wild animals.

Unpleasant as it may be, that’s unfortunately characteristic of someone detached from reality – an influencer. More and more people are losing everything,” added another voice.

Swiftly after sharing my previous post, I uploaded another image showcasing a somber Los Angeles sunset tinged with orange. In earnest, this sight is heart-wrenching; my thoughts are with the wildlife and people impacted by these events.

“I’m so sorry you have to go through this. Love you, and make sure to check on your friends!”

Angel has persistently updated her Instagram account with posts related to the fires, incorporating a thought from The London Economic into her own reflections as a caption.

The effects of climate change may unfold like a chain of catastrophes, with videos captured on smartphones showing increasingly close views of your own neighborhood, eventually making you the person behind the camera.

Many other social media personalities, such as Faze Kaysan, have faced the devastating effects of the Los Angeles wildfires. In fact, his residence in Malibu was destroyed completely by a blaze that reduced entire communities to ashes.
