Box Office: ‘Den of Thieves 2: Pantera’ Makes $1.35 Million in Previews

Gerard Butler and O’Shea Jackson Jr. return for the sequel, “Den of Thieves 2: Panther,” four years since their initial high-octane heist movie took off as a box office success.

So far, the Lionsgate film has earned approximately $1.35 million during Thursday previews at the box office. Experts predict that it could rake in between $11 million and $13 million during its opening weekend. This new release is expected to compete fiercely with Disney’s “Mufasa: The Lion King” for the top spot at the box office.

Disney’s photorealistic “Lion King” prequel, which debuted on December 20th, is projected to earn between $12 million and $15 million in its fourth weekend. The film started the new year with a strong opening of $23.4 million last week, but if it experiences a drop in audience interest, it may be surpassed by “Den of Thieves 2” during this weekend.

Over the weekend of December 20th, Disney’s photorealistic “Lion King” prequel was released and is estimated to make between $12 million and $15 million in its fourth week. It began the new year with a bang, earning $23.4 million last weekend, but if it experiences a decrease in viewership, it could potentially be overtaken by “Den of Thieves 2” this weekend.

In January 2018, “Den of Thieves” earned $950,000 during Thursday previews before it was released. The film opened with a weekend gross of $15.2 million and concluded its box office run with a total of $80 million. For the sequel, Lionsgate spent $40 million to produce, but they often minimize their financial risk in the box office by selling foreign distribution rights for their films.

In the sequel to “Den of Thieves,” titled “Den of Thieves 2,” Christian Gudegast continues as both writer and director. This new installment follows Los Angeles police officer Big Nick, played by Gerard Butler, in his pursuit of Donnie, a criminal mastermind planning a diamond heist. The ensemble cast includes Evin Ahmad, Salvatore Esposito, Meadow Williams, Swem Temmel, and others.

Additionally, the upcoming weekend will see the release of “Better Man” from Paramount Pictures, a musical biography film featuring singer Robbie Williams transformed into a CGI primate. Predicted to earn around $2 million during its debut weekend.
