In Marvel Rivals, strategists often face criticism for not healing enough, yet incorporating a single straightforward improvement could cause even the angriest Vanguards and Duelists to retract their harsh words.
Over the years, I’ve specialized as a Support player in Overwatch 2. In Marvel Rivals, I found myself naturally drawn to the Strategist role. Unlike some players who enjoy dishing out damage with characters like Hawkeye or Iron Fist, I prefer to shape matches by assisting my team in various ways instead.
However, those who have assumed the role of a Strategist can attest that it’s not always a simple existence. Frequently, you’re inundated with messages from disgruntled Duelists following a defeat, blaming you for leaving them to their own devices without providing any healing assistance.
In a twist on an age-old story, it’s clear that many conflicts in Marvel Rivals might find resolution sooner if they introduced a new scoring element: tracking the amount of healing each character receives.
A healing received stat could save Strategists from abuse in Marvel Rivals
During a game, players can view their healing contributions towards other characters in real-time, before all totals are disclosed at the end. Yet, this information only indicates the overall healing provided to the entire team and does not distinguish whether the healer has primarily targeted one specific character or distributed the healing evenly among them all.
During and following a contest, disclosing this data reduces the likelihood of Duelists and Vanguards unfairly accusing Strategists of unnecessary calls. In the thick of combat, it can be challenging to gauge the extent of healing received. However, turning this into a visible statistic would eliminate confusion and make it more transparent why repeated deaths occurred.
It’s possible that Jeff the Land Shark has overlooked you, which could explain your feelings of irritation. However, if you’ve received a large sum in healing and have died numerous times, you might attribute it to the opposing team being particularly powerful or consider adjusting your playing style instead.
In its current setup, strategists often become the targets of blame from tank and damage-per-second (DPS) players who have a tendency to believe they are the main characters. By incorporating this single visible statistic, at the very least, healers could be absolved of any mistakes and stop being unfairly criticized through constant spamming.
As an ardent admirer of both Marvel Rivals and Overwatch, I’ve often found myself pondering about a feature that fans from both communities have longed for – yet, I can’t help but acknowledge the challenges it might bring along.

Instead of reducing the opportunity for players to manipulate their strategies excessively, it might open the door to another form of harmful behavior. If a Duelist perceives that they are correct and have not received adequate healing, they may very well express their anger in the chat with a series of harsh messages.
It’s equally conceivable that teams might find themselves in a state of disagreement, debating over which characters require more attention and if the Tacticians ought to allocate resources to other characters as well.
Although there might not be a definitive method to prevent angry players from mistreating their Support teammates, displaying the healing received on the scoreboard can help reduce confusion. At its best, it encourages Duelists and Vanguards to reassess their frustrations before unfairly blaming the healer. In the worst-case scenario, it ensures that they are aware if their anger is warranted.
