A charitable organization supported by influential figures from the entertainment industry is increasing its efforts to aid firefighters, emergency responders, and communities impacted by the destructive wildfires in and around Los Angeles.
The Entertainment Industry Foundation, with Sherry Lansing as its director and Chris Silbermann as board chair from CAA, has launched a program that redirects public contributions to aid frontline workers and families and pets who have been displaced. Previously, this foundation managed a fund during the 2023 Maui fires, working alongside Oprah Winfrey and Dwayne Johnson.
Nicole Sexton, president and CEO of EIF, expressed her sympathy towards those who have lost their homes and are facing an uncertain future. She emphasized the immediate necessity of providing shelter, food, water, medical aid, and care for displaced pets to those affected.
The “Defy: Disaster” program, backed by City National Bank, provided aid to Maui residents who suffered home losses in the Lahaina and Kula fires. Over a period of six months, a total of $60 million was transferred directly into the bank accounts of affected individuals. Furthermore, in 2020, EIF and its disaster response philanthropic partners distributed over $14 million to more than 100 organizations.

In response to the devastating Camp and Woolsey Fires of 2018, the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) channeled over $2 million towards emergency responders throughout California, in addition to other entities offering ongoing support to those affected.
Moreover, the Executive Innovation Forum (EIF) also comprises executives such as Jeff Bader from NBCUniversal, Andy Kubitz representing Netflix, and Dan Harrison hailing from Fox.
As a movie enthusiast, I’ve been deeply saddened by the devastating wildfires that have swept through Pacific Palisades and Malibu since Tuesday morning, engulfing over 10,000 acres and leaving hundreds of structures in ruins. Tragically, two lives have been lost at the Altadena fire’s site, north of Pasadena, which too has consumed over 10,000 acres. The aftermath of these fires has forced a series of postponements or cancellations for premieres and events across Los Angeles, including the “Unstoppable” and “Wolf Man” movie launches and the AFI Awards luncheon. California’s Governor Gavin Newsom and President Joe Biden are being kept informed about this critical situation, which has necessitated the declaration of a state of emergency.
