Jon Stewart On Kamala Harris Certifying the Presidential Election of Donald Trump: ‘That’s Like Attending Your Own Funeral’

Following a three-week hiatus, I’m once again seated behind “The Daily Show” desk, reflecting on Vice President Kamala Harris‘s recent confirmation of President Donald Trump’s re-election – an event that coincidentally marked the fourth anniversary of the Capitol riot.

Today marks an historic day in Washington D.C., specifically January 6th. As you’re aware, the Capitol is currently under a layer of snow, which is causing some traffic disruptions, but significantly less chaos compared to previous occasions – fewer instances of bear spray and Confederate flags.

January 6th is historically when the current Vice President validates the votes for the new president. Notably, Stewart highlighted the unusual circumstance that Kamala Harris, who was defeated by Trump in the 2024 presidential election, found herself presiding over this ceremony.

Stewart showed a video of Harris announcing the votes Trump got in Florida, which prompted cheers from some members of the congressional audience.

Afterwards, Stewart showed a recording of Harris revealing her votes from California, which too elicited cheers.

Hold on! That seemed quite loud,” Stewart remarked. “There’s a lot of excitement in that space. I believe she has a chance to win this competition! She requires approximately 130,000 votes in Georgia, along with some in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and potentially Wisconsin.

Stewart added, “However, the grand event we’ve all eagerly anticipated every four years since my childhood, ran flawlessly. It’s incredible how effectively our democratic system functions when one doesn’t throw tantrums upon defeat. I’m not pointing fingers, just stating a fact.
