Currently, the person doesn’t find game development particularly impressive. However, they believe that there might be more to it in the future. At this moment, they don’t feel overly concerned about it, especially not from a standpoint of fear that it could replace everyone’s jobs.

To avoid this pitfall, I aim to design games where players feel like they have the ability to control their own destiny while still facing significant challenges. This approach ensures that the stakes remain high without rushing or overwhelming the player.
In my experience, creating games with a well-balanced sense of tension and exploration allows for a more immersive and satisfying gaming experience, as players can truly engage with the environment and make meaningful choices without feeling pressured to act quickly. By striking this balance, we can create games that are not only entertaining but also thought-provoking and memorable.
Initially, the storyline and scale of Judas were considered quite limited when work started on it, but as the team’s aspirations grew, so did the project. In fact, Judas has been under development for over five years now. One reason for this extended period is that the game is designed to be reactive to players’ decisions, making its development more complex and time-consuming.
“That’s a really hard problem, and that’s why you don’t see a ton of it [in games],” he said.
During the interview, Levine expressed his thoughts that video game creators are still on a journey of discovery, seeking to understand the true essence and potential of video games.
The field we’re in has been around for over half a century, yet its essence remains elusive to us. In contrast, films were already producing masterpieces like Citizen Kane after just 50 years. Though styles have evolved since then, the medium had already found its footing by the 1940s; we, however, are still grappling with understanding our industry as comprehensively.
