As a long-time admirer of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants franchise and a staunch advocate for women’s rights, I find myself deeply troubled by the recent turn of events involving Blake Lively and her co-stars. The solidarity shown by America Ferrera, Amber Tamblyn, and Alexis Bledel is commendable and speaks volumes about their character and principles.
When you support one sister of the traveling pants, you stand with them all. The co-stars of Blake Lively’s “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” have shown their solidarity by issuing a joint statement on social media in response to Lively’s lawsuit against her director and co-star, Justin Baldoni, Wayfarer Studios, their crisis PR team The Agency Group, Melissa Nathan, and others. On Instagram, America Ferrera, Amber Tamblyn, and Alexis Bledel expressed their backing for Lively, stating that they “stand with her in solidarity as she fights back against the reported campaign waged to damage her reputation.” In the lawsuit, Lively is accusing Baldoni of sexual harassment on the set of “It Ends With Us,” followed by hiring a crisis PR firm to launch a smear campaign against her.
In their collaboration on both “Sisterhood” movies and beyond, Ferrera, Tamblyn, and Bledel have remained close with Lively. During the production of “It Ends with Us”, they witnessed her bravely advocating for a safe working environment for herself and others on set. However, they were shocked to learn about what appeared to be a carefully planned and vindictive attempt to discredit her voice. The “Sisterhood” group particularly criticized Baldoni for his apparent contradiction in portraying himself as a feminist supporter. They found it particularly disturbing that stories of domestic violence survivors were used to silence Lively, who had asked for safety. The inconsistency is astonishing, they added. Baldoni has since denied Lively’s allegations through his lawyer, Bryan Freedman.
