Acting legend Art Evans, recognized for his work in films such as “Die Hard 2” and “Fright Night,” passed away on December 21st. His age at the time of passing was 82 years old.
Erica Huntzinger, Evans’ publicist, verified his passing to EbMaster. The specific reason behind his death remains undisclosed, but his obituary mentioned that he passed away tranquilly with loved ones around him.
In her statement, Babe Evans, wife of the late Art, expressed their profound sorrow: “Art has sadly departed from us. At this delicate moment, we kindly ask for privacy. A memorial service will be arranged for friends and relatives to pay their respects at a future time. Our gratitude goes out to you.
Over the past five decades, Evans has accumulated more than a hundred and twenty credits in both films and television productions. His acting career began at Frank Silvera’s Theater of Being in Los Angeles, where he starred in “The Amen Corner”. This role later moved to Broadway in 1965. One of his earliest credited film performances was as the first victim in the John Carpenter movie “Christine”, which premiered in 1983.
Later, Evans shared the screen with actors such as Adolph Caesar and Denzel Washington in “A Soldier’s Story,” a role that may have cemented his fame. Notably, he played Leslie Barnes, an air traffic control tower worker who assists John McClane (Bruce Willis) in thwarting terrorists in the film “Die Hard 2.
In various films, Evans was showcased in “Big Time,” “Youngblood,” “National Lampoon’s Class Reunion,” “Fright Night,” “School Daze,” “Bitter Harvest,” “Tales from the Hood” and “Metro.” On television screens, he made appearances on “M*A*S*H,” “Hill Street Blues,” “Monk,” “The X-Files” and “Family Matters.” Notably, in the series “A Different World,” Evans portrayed Mr. Johnson, the father of Ron Johnson (Darryl M. Bell).
Evans is survived by his wife, Babe Evans, and son, Ogadae Evans.
