Catly Dev Releases New Trailer, Claims No Generative AI Used In The Game

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the trailer for Catly piqued my curiosity. The idea of raising and customizing cats, with an emphasis on their appearance and wardrobe, is undeniably intriguing. The world-building aspect, allowing players to create oddly charming, alien-looking locales, seems like a refreshing twist in the game development world.

Another preview for Catly, a game centered around nurturing cats which was initially showcased at The Game Awards in 2024 and has faced allegations regarding AI involvement, has now surfaced on its Steam profile.

The trailer (that isn’t available on YouTube yet) offers a glimpse into various aspects of the game, giving us a more defined understanding of its subject matter. It showcases felines with both lifelike fur and vibrant, unusual colors strutting down the streets. Later in the trailer, we discover the character who creates cats within the game, enabling players to personalize their cat’s appearance.

Does the game allow players to customize their virtual cats’ looks? Whether it’s a natural calico coat or something resembling a Pokemon character, the game seems to offer options for modifying both the physical appearance and wardrobe of the cats. In truth, this game includes an extensive selection of clothing and accessories that players can dress their digital feline companions in.

The trailer also shows off the game’s worldbuilder, which appears to allow players to build oddly charming, alien-looking locales to house their furry friends in. Despite how visually odd some players have found the game, a representative for Catly developer SuperAuthenti says it finds the accusations of AI use surprising, and claims that generative AI has played no part in the game’s development. Still, some have found the game’s promotional images to be suspicious, claiming there’s evidence of the artifacting often seen when an image is AI-generated. According to the game’s developers, however, that isn’t the case.

Although SuperAuthenti hasn’t disclosed a launch date for the game Catly, you can add it to your wishlist on Steam right now.
