Eddie Redmayne to Return for ‘The Day of the Jackal’ Season 2

As a seasoned movie buff with a penchant for suspenseful dramas and a soft spot for enigmatic anti-heroes, I find myself thrilled at the prospect of Eddie Redmayne reprising his role as the elusive Jackal in “The Day of the Jackal” Season 2. Having had the pleasure of watching the original adaptation with Edward Fox in my youth and now the Sky/Peacock version, I must say that Redmayne’s portrayal has certainly left an indelible mark on me.

Eddie Redmayne has confirmed he is returning for “The Day of the Jackal” Season 2.

The series, in which Redmayne plays mysterious mercenary the Jackal, was renewed last month.

If you’re among those who haven’t had a chance to watch the Sky and Peacock version of the 1972 novel and 1973 movie titled “The Day of the Jackal,” starring Edward Fox as the ruthless assassin known as the Jackal, the recent news might seem perplexing.

As a film aficionado, I find myself immersed in the thrill of chasing a captivating character, the Jackal, across the picturesque landscapes of Europe. This cat-and-mouse game carries an exhilarating tension, with the relentless detective, portrayed by the talented Lashana Lynch in the latest rendition, doggedly pursuing her quarry. However, as fate would have it, one of us must meet a tragic end when we finally cross paths.

People who have seen the Sky or Peacock adaptation, especially its unexpected season finale, are aware that there’s still a lot of Redmayne’s story left to be told.

Should there be one disliked aspect by the Jackal, it’s unfinished business. Therefore, we’ll catch up with you shortly for Season 2,” Redmayne conveyed to fans in an Instagram video post.

Gareth Neame, the show’s producer, confessed his initial reluctance to revive the property due to his strong affinity for the original film. However, he eventually conceded, saying, “Ultimately, the commercial necessity won out, and I found myself agreeing, ‘Okay, we need revenue, so let’s give it a try.’

Previously this month, lead director Brian Kirk explained to EbMaster that the surprising twist regarding who meets their end was a key aspect of the reboot from its inception. “Given the immense interest and anticipation surrounding the character of the Jackal,” Kirk stated, “and the potential for further development, it’s no surprise that a second season has been confirmed. The aim is to expand the IP… and ‘The Day of the Jackal’ isn’t about who kills the Jackal, but rather the Jackal himself. Therefore, it seemed fitting.
