As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the modding community is as much a part of gaming culture as the games themselves. The anticipation for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth‘s PC release next year has already sent ripples through the community, and I have no doubt that we will see some creative (and possibly risqué) mods.
As a gamer, I’m thrilled to share that after its launch on PlayStation 5 earlier this year, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is set to make its entrance on PC in early 2025. Game Director Naoki Hamaguchi anticipates that the PC release will likely spark some quirky mods, much like what we saw with Final Fantasy 7 Remake when it went live on PC in 2021. However, Hamaguchi kindly asks us players to steer clear of any inappropriate or offensive Rebirth mods.
In simpler terms, Hamaguchi shared with Epic Games that although the team doesn’t currently have plans for endorsing mods within the game, they appreciate the ingenuity of the modding community and encourage their creations. However, they kindly ask modders to refrain from developing or installing anything that might be offensive or inappropriate.
Unfortunately for Hamaguchi, it might be akin to instructing the sea not to reach the shore. The Final Fantasy 7 Remake was swiftly modified with revealing outfits for Tifa, Aerith, and other characters. It’s likely that Rebirth will face similar treatment. However, the modding community has also crafted modifications that are transformative, and can be considered pieces of art in their own right. It’ll be intriguing to observe what modifications emerge from Rebirth.
Among TopMob’s standout PlayStation 5 games of 2024, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is set to launch on PC on January 23, 2025. Despite not meeting Square Enix’s sales targets with both Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth, bringing Rebirth to the PC platform could boost its performance. However, the company has not yet disclosed the specific sales figures for this title. In November, a visual encyclopedia for the prequel, titled Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Material Ultimania Plus, was released. This comprehensive book offers commentary, artwork, maps, and behind-the-scenes insights into the game.
