Pokemon TCG Pocket devs confirm players’ worst fears for Mythical Island

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of collecting Pokemon Trading Card Game (TCG) cards under my belt, I must say, I find myself both dismayed and amused by the recent announcement regarding Pack Points in the Pokemon TCG Pocket game.

As a passionate gamer, I’ve just got some mind-blowing news straight from the Pokémon TCG Pocket developers regarding Pack Points ahead of the launch of the Mythical Island set. Hold onto your hats, folks!

The popular Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) Pocket is about to undergo its initial significant expansion with the debut of the Mythical Island booster packs. Enthusiasts are already brainstorming fresh tactics, sparked by the unveiling of cards such as Mew EX and a novel Vaporeon variant.

Excited for the upcoming game update, enthusiasts have been accumulating Pack Hourglasses in preparation to open as many new booster packs as they can at release. There’s also an in-game promotion offering extra resources, although it will only provide some fresh cards; unfortunately, one specific card won’t be transferable over.

As a devoted Pokémon Trading Card Game enthusiast, I’ve got some news straight from the official Pokémon TCG Pocket website: Pack Points can’t be moved between sets. So, those hard-earned ones from Genetic Apex won’t do you any good when it comes to snagging Mythical Island cards. Bummer, right? But remember, there’s always the next set to look forward to!

Pokemon TCG Pocket’s Pack Points won’t transfer between sets

If you’re new to the game, let me clarify: Pack Points play a significant role in Pokemon TCG Pocket’s construction system. Every time you open a booster pack, you automatically receive five Pack Points. These points can be utilized to craft any card you desire, which means you can reinforce your collection by ensuring a copy of one that you lack is added.

Regrettably, they’re on the verge of losing much of their utility. The developers of Pokémon TCG Pocket are making changes to the game’s support section, preparing it for a universe that accommodates multiple sets.

In the Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket FAQ, it explains that by opening booster packs associated with a specific expansion, you accumulate points for that particular expansion. These points can exclusively be traded in for cards found within that same expansion. Each expansion is a collection of cards identified by a unique code (like A1, A1a, or A2), and this code determines which cards are contained in the corresponding booster packs.

In the game, the symbol A1 signifies Genetic Apex, while A1a represents Mythical Island. This implies that your existing Pack Points cannot be utilized to create uncommon cards from the latest set for these specific regions. Earlier, there was uncertainty due to vague in-game text, but this is the first clear confirmation of this restriction.

At the very least, players can use their current stash to craft any missing cards without worrying they’ll be behind when the Mythical Island expansion launches on December 17, 2024.
