Ghost of Yotei is full of hidden secrets and things to do as you explore. Many of these aren’t shown on the map, so you’ll need to discover them yourself by carefully searching the world. In the starting area, the Yotei Grasslands, you can find a special archery challenge called ku-e-shinok, located in the Ainu hunting grounds. Completing this challenge rewards you with a talisman that’s crucial if you want to create a really powerful archer character.

How to unlock the ku-e-shinok archery challenge?
The Ainu hunting grounds are in the Yotei Grasslands, on the Golden Foothills, south of the Ishikari Plain. You’ll need to find this location yourself, as you won’t receive any guidance. Once there, talk to the child near the tent, and then touch the screen to see Atsu’s memories.
This memory involves a game called ku-e-shinok, where you shoot arrows through hoops. There are six hoops and six arrows. Three hoops are fixed to trees and can be shot at anytime, while the other three are thrown by children, so you’ll need to time your shots. Think of this as a practice session for ku-e-shinok. The young version of Atsu has trouble focusing, making the game harder, but you don’t actually need to win this flashback.
How to complete the ku-e-shinok archery challenge?
After finishing the flashback sequence, you can talk to Aykor to officially start the Ku-e-Shinok challenge. The goal is to hit three hoops to win a prize, but hitting all six will earn you an even better reward! You can play the Ku-e-Shinok mini-game as many times as you like for free, so keep practicing until you get it.
Okay, so the hanging rings are pretty easy, don’t even worry about those. It’s the hoops that’ll test you, so really focus when they start throwing. Listen for the kids – they’ll give you a warning right before they toss one. Pay attention to *which* kid is throwing, because it changes how you need to aim. The kids on the sides throw hoops that roll across the water, so shoot when the hoop gets to the left side of the log in front of you. But the kid in the middle? That’s the real challenge. They throw the hoop up in the air, and it’s way harder. You *have* to use concentration for that one and aim for the right edge of the hoop while it’s still flying.
Successfully shooting three hoops will unlock a new bow color and the Iron Focus Charm, which makes it easier to stay focused for longer. Hitting six hoops upgrades the Iron Focus Charm, extending the focus duration even further. This charm is particularly useful for characters focused on archery, allowing skilled players to eliminate many enemies with headshots before a fight begins.
