Onimusha Way of the Sword coming to consoles & PC in 2026

As a gamer who has been around since the turn of the millennium, I can hardly contain my excitement at the news of Onimusha: Way of the Sword! The series holds a special place in my heart, having grown up with the original Warlords and its subsequent sequels. It’s like a blast from the past coming back to haunt me… or rather, save Japan from evil spirits!

Capcom has announced ‘Onimusha Way of the Sword‘ at The Game Awards 2024.

2026 marks the launch of our exciting action-adventure game, available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series gaming systems, and personal computers.

Additionally, a captivating gameplay trailer for the upcoming title, showcased earlier, displayed numerous stunning gameplay clips, despite the fact that the game is yet to be released for several more years.

Along with the trailer a detailed description of the game was also revealed, which reads:

2026 is when I’ll be diving back into the Onimusha series, with the release of Onimusha: Way of the Sword by Capcom. In this new adventure, I’ll find myself as a lone samurai, armed with a razor-sharp blade and the powerful Oni Gauntlet. As I slice through enemies in the heat of battle, my mind is filled with questions about why I fight. The once tranquil city of Kyoto now stands transformed by evil forces, known as Malice, turning historic landmarks into haunted grounds teeming with monstrous “Genma”. My path lies ahead, and the choices I make will shape not only my journey but the fate of this city.

In the year 2001, the initial installment of the Onimusha series, titled Onimusha: Warlords, made its debut. Subsequently, numerous spin-offs were launched throughout the early 2000s. However, the franchise has since experienced a period of inactivity.

Interestingly enough, in 2016, Capcom games producer Yoshinori Ono disclosed during an interview with me that there were substantial talks about a fresh Onimusha title taking place at upper echelons.

Ono mentioned that he had discussions with the original team members of Onimusha, and they mused about the potential excitement of returning to that series.

“But fans should know that we’re not further down that road than the discussion phase.”

It only took eight more years, but finally, Capcom is delivering on their promise.
