Charly Clive Joins Steve Carell in HBO College Comedy Series From Bill Lawrence, Matt Tarses

As a long-time fan of Charly Clive’s heartfelt performances and her inspiring journey, I am absolutely thrilled to see her star opposite Steve Carell in this upcoming HBO comedy series! Her unique talent and resilient spirit, as showcased through her work with Britney and in projects like The Lazarus Project, Pure, All My Friends Hate Me, and more, will undoubtedly bring a fresh and captivating energy to this new project.

In an upcoming HBO comedy series produced by Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses, Charly Clive will share the screen with Steve Carell as a co-star.

Initially, the series was acquired as early as May. Apart from Carell and Clive, it’s been confirmed that “Ted Lasso” co-star Phil Dunster will join the cast as well, taking on a leading role.

The half-hour television program has been commissioned for ten episodes. The formal description reveals that this single-camera production is set in a university environment, focusing on the intricate bond between a writer (Carell) and his daughter (Clive).

Clive, together with Ellen Robertson, forms half of the comedy duo known as “Britney.” In 2023, they transformed their act into a BBC Three pilot. Originally, “Britney” started as a stage show that Clive co-wrote, based on her personal journey after being diagnosed with a brain tumor at age 23. Lately, Clive has been seen in TV shows such as “The Lazarus Project” and “Pure,” and she’s also acted in films like “All My Friends Hate Me.

She is repped by United Agents, Linden Entertainment, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.

The initial episode of the series was penned by Lawrence and Tarses. They both hold the position of executive producers, with Carell not only starring in the series but also taking on the role of an executive producer. Lawrence serves as an executive producer through Doozer Productions alongside Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer. Warner Bros. Television, where Lawrence and Tarses have overall deals, is responsible for production.

As a cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be working alongside a familiar face from my previous project, “Ted Lasso.” This time, it’s none other than the talented Brett Goldstein, known as Roy Kent. Together with Jason Segel, we’ve co-created a new series on Apple TV+ titled “Shrinking,” where I’ll be part of the cast. Can’t wait to bring this project to life!

Deadline first reported Clive’s casting.
