Grow A Garden is a popular game on Roblox, and its appeal lies in its relaxed gameplay – you can check on your garden for a short time and then let it grow on its own. We’ll cover early game strategies, what to focus on once you’ve earned some money, and the more complex features that will benefit you in the long run.

Best Plants to buy in the early stages

If you’re new to gardening, carrots are a great way to earn some extra money because they grow fast. But it’s usually better to focus on plants that keep producing after you harvest them. These plants are more economical in the long run – you’ll get your investment back and won’t have to keep buying new seeds.

Generally, plants you harvest only once aren’t very profitable, but bamboo and mushrooms are exceptions. Bamboo is especially valuable – buy as many seeds as you can whenever the shop restocks, plant them, and let them grow. The more they’re exposed to different weather conditions, the more valuable ‘Grow A Garden’ traits they’ll develop, increasing their selling price. Mushrooms are also a good option for a potentially large profit from a single harvest.

Don’t forget about the guide achievements

The Guide Book is a great way to earn experience. Although leveling up doesn’t offer amazing rewards, finishing each section of the Guide Book gives you useful items for your garden, like seed packets and pet shards, among other things.

To finish the Common Achievements page, you just need to do a few simple tasks: dig up 100 plants, collect 200 carrots, sell 500 strawberries, and give away one carrot and five strawberries. As a reward, you’ll get a cooking kit and five packs of common silver seeds.

Mid-late game tips for making money

After earning your first million Sheckles, start clearing out plants you don’t need using a shovel. Common, uncommon, and rare plants take up valuable space that’s better used for higher-quality plants you might find or buy later. To check a plant’s rarity, simply hover your cursor over it or look at the crop directly. If the name appears grey, green, or blue, it’s likely safe to dig up.

Focus on selling crops quickly – either large, one-time harvests like watermelons, or those with low profits like apples. Instead, prioritize growing trees that produce a lot of fruit, such as coconuts, mangoes, dragon fruit, and romanesco. Bamboo remains a solid choice as your farm develops, thanks to its fast growth and good value, especially with mutations. As you earn more, you can invest in the most valuable plants and fill your garden with them.

Mutate your rarest pets

Now’s a great time to start collecting Grow A Garden pets! Prioritize getting pets from special events that give unique traits, as those traits won’t last through updates. They might not be valuable now, but hatching a lot of them could lead to good trades later. Skip the common and uncommon eggs in the shop – they’re usually not worth the effort. Instead, focus on rare and higher-rarity eggs, as those can really improve your game.

Pets can only have one mutation at a time, so pick wisely! To mutate your pet, first level it up to 50, then deposit it at the facility near the pet shop for 500,000,000 sheckles. Alternatively, starting at level 40, you can give your pet a Golden Acorn for a random mutation.

  • Shiny – provides an additional 15% boost to the pet’s XP per second.
  • Inverted – provides an additional 30% boost to the pet’s XP per second.
  • Windy – every 4 minutes and 47 seconds, there’s a 20.12% chance a nearby fruit gets the Windstruck mutation.
  • Frozen – every 4 minutes and 47 seconds, there’s a 30% chance a nearby fruit gets the Frozen mutation.
  • Golden – gives a big increase to the pet’s passive.
  • Mega – pet is gigantic and has a 20% faster hunger rate. Gains an additional 10-40 XP per second.
  • Tiny – pet is tiny and has a 20% slower hunger rate. Gains an additional 5-30 XP per second
  • IronSkin – gives around a 35% to 45% chance to recover any stolen fruit.
  • Rainbow – provides a bigger increase to the pet’s passive.
  • Shocked – during a thunderstorm, every 45-60 seconds, it has between a 25% and 30% chance to attract lightning strikes to give nearby fruits the Shocked mutation.
  • Radiant – every 20 to 30 minutes, it emits sunshine at a random nearby plant to advance its growth by 24 hours.
  • Ascended – every 5 to 6 hours, there is around a 75% chance that this pet will give the Dawnbound mutation to a random fruit.

Occasionally, both past and current in-game events reward Pet Shards. You can use these shards to change your pets with special abilities.

  • Aromatic – every 24 minutes and 42 seconds, a nearby fruit has a chance to get the Aromatic mutation. (Cooking event only)
  • Fried – every 20 minutes, a nearby fruit has a chance to get the Fried mutation (Cooking event only)
  • Tranquil – every 25 minutes, a nearby fruit has a chance to get the Tranquil mutation (Zen event only)
  • Corrupted – every 25 minutes, a nearby fruit has a chance to get the Corrupted mutation (Zen event only)
  • GiantBean – pet has a 15% faster hunger rate and gains an additional 0.12 XP per second for each Beanstalk planted in your garden. (Beanstalk event only)
  • Glimmering – every 24 minutes and 45 seconds, a nearby fruit has a 20.14% chance of getting the Glimmering mutation (Fairies event only)
  • Luminous – every 34 minutes and 15 seconds, a nearby fruit has a 20.04% chance to get the Luminous mutation (Fairies event only)
  • Nutty – every 19 minutes and 40 seconds, the pet’s main ability has a 20% chance to activate twice. If this fails, your pet loses a level. (Chubby Chipmunk event only)

You can earn Pet Shards by taking part in events or finishing achievements. These shards are one-time-use items that permanently change your pet’s appearance, even giving them looks you can’t get anywhere else. Here’s a list of the current options:

  • Silver – obtain by completing Pet Achievements
  • Gold – obtain by completing Pet Achievements
  • Rainbow – obtain by completing Pet Achievements

Buy tools and get crafting

Don’t forget to get extra tools from the shop or make them yourself! These can boost your pet’s skills, help you water plants better, and even let you create special sprays that cause plant mutations. We especially suggest keeping a Basic, Advanced, and Godly sprinkler so you can craft either a Lightning Rod or a Tanning Mirror for 500,000 Sheckles. Placing these down will increase the chance your nearby plants get useful mutations – Shocked during storms and Sundried during heatwaves.

You can create unique plants by combining seeds and existing plants – it’s a bit like a science experiment gone wild! While the idea seems strange, growing special plants like Lingonberries and Mandrakes is essential if you want to craft with them, and it will require effort, funds, and materials for your garden.

Participate in Admin Abuse events

Before you start playing Grow A Garden on Roblox, check the section below to find out when the next event begins. It explains what the event is about and also warns that there will be a period of “Admin Abuse” – where admins might playfully interfere – starting one hour before the new update is launched.

Okay, so the term “Admin Abuse” isn’t the best, I admit, but here’s what happens when it does. Basically, one of the game’s creators will pop up with big, scrolling messages – kinda like the ones they use to announce shop restocks. They’ll let us know when really cool, rare items are hitting the shops and give us a heads-up about special, creator-only events in the Grow A Garden area, like unique weather patterns.

To earn a lot of in-game currency during the Admin Abuse event, grow valuable plants in your garden beforehand. Focus on high-value options like Bamboo or plants that quickly regrow, such as romanesco. Make sure your garden is full at least a couple of hours before the event starts to maximize your profits after the update.

Cook plants in the cooking kit

You can obtain a cooking kit by either reaching specific milestones in the game (Common, Rare, or Mythical tier achievements) or purchasing it from the in-game shop for 1,000,000 Sheckles. Once placed in your garden, you can use it to cook by placing a plant from your hand into the pot. Each recipe allows for up to five plants. To maximize your results, use valuable plants or those with special mutations, as these traits can be passed on to the cooked food. The more mutated or high-value fruits you use, the higher the mutation level of the cooked food will be.

Feeding these special plants to shop owners builds friendship faster. Normal food gives you 2 friendship points, but mutated plants give many more, depending on how many mutations they have. Since you can only feed a shop owner once every 24 hours, it’s best to grow plants with lots of mutations to maximize your friendship gains with each one.

Making recipes in Grow A Garden, like corndogs, is easy because you only need to consider the type of plant you’re using. To make a corndog, you need one plant for the stick, one for the meat, and one for the batter. While many plants can be used as the stick, only a few work well as meat. The batter must be either violet corn or regular corn.

It’s a good idea to keep a few cakes available. If an NPC has a birthday, giving them cake can earn you a rare item from their shop as a free gift. Here’s a list of all the NPC birthdays:

  • Eloise (Gear shop) – March 4
  • Sam (Seed shop) – July 2
  • Isaac (Cosmetic shop) – December 1
  • Raphael (Egg shop) – October 30
  • Orson (Ascension shop) – Unknown

Look out for merchants

A traveling merchant appears near the Seed shop every 30 minutes. They offer rare items that are hard to find or make on your own. While their stock is limited and they won’t have everything, you might discover something useful for your garden in their shop.

Spend a fortune to Ascend and gain Garden Coins
