Similar to their controllers, these Retro Mechanical Keyboards are designed with inspiration from vintage gaming hardware. The NES-inspired edition was one of the initial models and has been the most sought-after–but the upcoming transparent green Xbox-themed version could challenge that popularity. If you’re a fan of Nintendo and looking for a mechanical keyboard, Best Buy’s Deal of the Day offers a $30 discount on their exclusive N Edition bundle, which includes a detachable arcade stick. This 8BitDo N Edition Keyboard Bundle is available for only $70 until December 10 at 10 PM PT.
The unique, Super Stick joystick is usually found only with the Commodore 64-inspired models, but 8BitDo has teamed up with Best Buy to offer a special bundle that includes an NES-styled joystick attachment. Interestingly, this bundle is typically priced at $100, which matches the cost of the N Edition without the joystick on Best Buy. This could mean that this limited-time deal will only be available for a short period. Despite the $100 price tag, it’s still considered a good deal as the Commodore 64 model usually sells for $110.
Currently, you can grab the C64 Edition from Amazon for just $86, which is quite a deal, but if your affection lies more with the C64, then the Best Buy N Edition bundle at $70 seems like the superior option.
Each 8BitDo keyboard comes equipped with detachable Super Buttons – the prominent red A and B buttons you see pictured. These Super Buttons function through microswitches, giving them a comfortable, mouse-like sensation when activated.
All four models currently offered provide wireless connectivity through 2.4GHz and Bluetooth, plus wired options via USB-C. For years, 8BitDo has crafted accessories that exceed expectations in terms of performance and construction quality at their price points. These keyboards don’t disappoint; they are not just “excellent for $100,” but genuinely excellent.
8BitDo’s Ultimate Software V2 for PC allows you to reassign keys and Super Buttons, although the keyboards were initially tenkeyless (no number pad). However, 8BitDo now offers mechanical numpads that can double as calculators to match these keyboards. On December 12th, 8BitDo will release full-size N Edition and Fami Edition keyboards for $120 each.
8BitDo’s Retro Mechanical Keyboards are marketed as compatible with Windows and Android systems, but they can effortlessly connect wirelessly to iOS, Mac, Steam Deck, and various devices that support Bluetooth and 2.4GHz wireless keyboards without any issues. However, the Ultimate Software V2 is not yet accessible on Apple devices at the present moment.
