Given my extensive background in political intrigue, having lived through countless White House scandals, I can’t wait to see how this screwball whodunnit unfolds, especially with the unique twist of being set within the walls of the White House itself.
On March 20, 2025, the Shondaland-produced White House murder mystery series titled “The Residence” is set to debut on Netflix.
As a passionate cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that the streaming platform has unveiled a sneak peek of their upcoming “screwball whodunnit” production. In this intriguing mystery, the talented Uzo Aduba portrays detective Cordelia Cupp, while Randall Park brings FBI agent Edwin Park to life on screen. As a devoted cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that I, personally, am the mastermind behind “The Residence,” a captivating series created under my guidance as its creator, showrunner, writer, and executive producer. This remarkable production is also overseen by the esteemed Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers in their roles as executive producers.
The Residence” features a talented group of actors such as Giancarlo Esposito, Edwina Findley, Molly Griggs, Jason Lee, Ken Marino, Al Mitchell, Dan Perrault, Bronson Pinchot, Julieth Restrepo, Mel Rodriguez, Susan Kelechi Watson, Isiah Whitlock Jr., and Mary Wiseman.
The show encompasses eight full-length episodes, drawing inspiration from the book “The Residence” penned by Kate Andersen Brower.
Title for “The Residence”: “132 Rooms, 157 Suspects, One Corpse, One Unorthodox Detective, One Chaotic State Banquet – A Comical Murder Mystery Unfolding within the White House’s Halls, Kitchens, and Secret Passages, among an Array of Unusual Residents.
Aduba’s character, Cupp, is portrayed as witty, humorous, persistent, incredibly focused, and supremely self-assured. He’s renowned as a legendary birder and is regarded as the world’s top-requested detective. However, Agent Park from Park’s series, expressed some skepticism towards Cupp’s unconventional investigative methods. According to Netflix, he serves as Cupp’s Watson, complementing his Holmes-like character.
