As a battle-hardened gamer who’s spent countless hours navigating the virtual battlegrounds of modern warfare, I can confidently say that Lioness Season 2 Episode 8 was nothing short of exhilarating. The tension, the action, and the unpredictability were reminiscent of those late-night gaming sessions where victory seemed a distant dream but was always within reach.
Instead of focusing on Landman and Yellowstone, Taylor Sheridan has gone all out with military elements in Episode 8, which marks the thrilling conclusion to Lioness Season 2.
It’s now time to rely on the CIA for our final operation. Following the circumstances established in Episode 7, Team Lioness is making their way back to their base in Iraq, with the objective of discreetly obtaining critical enemy intelligence near the border.
Meanwhile, Kaitlyn is currently managing the grand scheme of Los Tigres, a Mexican drug cartel that Joe has been pursuing throughout. With their advantage, as their niece Josephina is a U.S. military personnel, it falls on Pablo, her father, to cooperate.
Joe almost lost her life in the binge-worthy TV show, but she’s intent on being back on the battlefield. But can she make it out alive… and can anyone else? Here’s the full rundown of Lioness Season 2 Episode 8 (Warning: spoilers ahead!).
The Iran mission is complex in Lioness Season 2 Episode 8
In episode 8 of Season 2, the story unfolds at the intersection of Turkey, Iraq, and Iran. Cody, sporting his full camouflage (with Taylor Sheridan returning!), is positioned for surveillance as a helicopter approaches to land. Meanwhile, Jo, Bobby, Josephina, and Cruz pursue in tanks, with Joe showing signs of exhaustion even before they start their mission. They eventually return to the US base, where we recall the encounter between Joe and Josephina from episode 2.
When the team prepares to get ready, Joe decides to bring a firearm along – you might recall that in Episode 7 she was instructed to simply watch and offer suggestions. On the other hand, Josephina’s previous commanding officer considers her reckless for planning to pilot an unfamiliar helicopter with only one door gunner and no predetermined flight plan. Cruz will accompany her, and they pledge to communicate if they successfully complete the upcoming mission.
The team has been informed of their mission details: They need to reach an outpost within approximately two hours to block the opposing force. Assistance is available, though it may be limited or compromised due to damages sustained in Afghanistan. The adversary is highly skilled and well-equipped, posing a formidable challenge similar to the Lionesses. The border of Iraq lies just two miles distant, but prior instructions indicate that we must inflict damage in Iran. The mission has been designated as Operation Sky Hawk.
Pablo chooses his side
Kaitlyn and Bryon reach the location where Kyle resides, seeking a conversation with Pablo. Due to some issues, all of his bank accounts worldwide, even those set up for his children’s trusts, are currently unavailable. Kaitlyn explains their presence is about “neutralizing a risk to U.S. national security,” which incidentally pertains to Pablo’s brother. Their goal is to utilize Pablo’s trust, pledging to safeguard it diligently. When Pablo seems uncertain, they entice him with the promise of “the safety he enjoys in Mexico combined with the liberties he can have in the United States.
Pablo is asked to contact Alvaro, and Kaitlyn and Bryon plan to meet him tomorrow. They offer him $300 million immediately, with more funds to follow. At the same time, Edwin summons the Chief of Staff for an update on a pressing matter. It appears that two Chinese nuclear experts are heading towards the Isfahan Nuclear Facility, bringing either crucial data or equipment. This action seems to trigger Iran’s nuclear capabilities, unbeknownst to the president.
As four vehicles depart the enemy base, it’s full speed ahead! While Sheridan’s character navigates an army version of a dune buggy over open terrain, Josephina and Cruz assault the enemy column from the sky. Their helicopter takes a hit and starts to plummet. They prepare for a hard landing, colliding with the ground. Bobby and his team are dispatched to advance, with Cody at a nearby sniper post attempting to eliminate any remaining enemies from the convoy.
At an airport, Kaitlyn and her group find themselves encountering Alvaro. Upon arrival, they’re asked to exit the vehicle before reaching his location. This leads to a tense situation involving guns. Pablo manages to deescalate the conflict as the vehicles move closer. In a swift action, Byron secretly places a gun into Pablo’s pocket. Without warning, Pablo shoots Alvaro, fatally wounding him and his henchmen in the process. Pablo then informs the remaining individuals that the drug cartel has a new leader, and that the captive Chinese individual is under the protection of the CIA.
Miraculously, the entire team survives
In Iran, Cruz manages to survive the wreckage. Josephina too lives but is unable to walk. Exposed to approaching enemy vehicles, Joe’s team receives a call to return to base. However, Josephina disregards the orders, instructing Bobby to proceed first. Overwhelmed by the numbers, they find themselves in a firefight before reaching the crash scene. Cody does what he can, but the rest of their group is taking heavy casualties.
I follow Cody’s instructions and retreat, allowing our snipers to maintain cover after we disable the enemy vehicles. Unfortunately, we take a hit from an incoming tank, but manage to survive. However, our position is now exposed to the enemy on the ground. On foot, we push forward while Joe locates the helicopter. As the team regroups, it becomes clear that the entire outpost is advancing towards us on foot. Cody tells Joe we need to move, and Edwin stands by, receiving orders to contact the president.
Five minutes remain until reinforcements arrive, but an increasing number of hostile soldiers are pouring in. One by one, our team members fall, hit by enemy fire as they overwhelm us. Joe finds himself out of bullets, and Josephina lets out a painful scream. With the situation seeming hopeless, unexpected backup from the president arrives, obliterating all nearby enemy forces. As relevant diplomats contact the CIA, Edwin recommends we simply let them endure their misfortune.
Although no lives have been lost, some of the Lionesses are sustaining critical, potentially life-altering wounds. The cleanup effort has become overwhelming, leaving Joe in a deeply emotional state. Tears flow as she returns home, only to find Neal on the doorstep. After their recent argument, they reconcile and put their differences aside.
