Dick Van Dyke Sings and Dances Again at 98 Years Old in Emotional Coldplay Music Video: ‘Think How Lucky I Am. I Got to Play and Act Silly’

As a movie enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of cinema since the black and white era, I can confidently say that Dick Van Dyke‘s career is nothing short of legendary. At 98 years old, he’s still dancing, singing, and making us laugh – a testament to his timeless charm and spirit.

In the recently released music video for Coldplay’s newest single titled “All My Love”, Dick Van Dyke takes center stage. At 98 years old, this iconic figure from Tinseltown is seen dancing without shoes and sharing a duet performance with the band’s lead singer, Chris Martin.

Under the guidance of Spike Jonze and Mary Wigmore, the seven-minute clip resembles a short film, serving as a retrospective for Van Dyke, who celebrates his 99th birthday on December 13, as he ponders over his nearly eight-decade career. The multitalented artist, with Golden Globe, Tony, and Emmy awards to his name, is most recognized for his roles in the movie musicals “Bye Bye Birdie,” “Mary Poppins,” and “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.” In the “All My Love” music video, he demonstrates that the dance moves which made him a household name are still very much intact. At one point, he even dons his iconic bowler hat.

The video was filmed at Van Dyke’s Malibu residence and combines various scenes featuring Van Dyke, his family, and Martin in the backyard, along with old photos and interview snippets. In an interview, Van Dyke expressed, “I fully understand that I might not be here tomorrow, but it doesn’t worry me. I’m not fearful of it. Somehow, instinctively, I feel reassured – entirely against any rational thought – that everything will turn out fine for me.

I’m fortunate to be among those individuals who get to transform their passion into a career. It’s like hitting the jackpot! I get to engage in activities that, quite frankly, I would have pursued even if it wasn’t my job. Playing around and being a bit goofy? Sign me up!

In the yard, Van Dyke’s wider family gathers to share warm embraces and applause, among them his kids, grandkids, and even great-grandkids. As the video concludes and credits unfurl, Martin spontaneously sings a song about aging, which Van Dyke listens to with happiness and curiosity.

“Do you believe this man?” Van Dyke asks the camera operators. “He just wrote a song!”
