As a seasoned gamer and avid fan of the Harry Potter franchise, I must admit that the prospect of a new TV show based on JK Rowling’s beloved books has filled me with equal parts excitement and trepidation. The movies are etched deeply into my childhood memories, and the thought of revisiting Hogwarts through a fresh lens is tantalizing.
As per the latest update, it appears that HBO’s Harry Potter series has cast Severus Snape; however, there’s a different acting speculation about another character that fans may not have picked up on yet.
As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but admire the legendary status of the Harry Potter movie series. Each film, from the first to the eighth, is a masterfully crafted blockbuster that showcases some of the UK’s top acting talents at their finest.
Currently, around ten years since the release of Deathly Hallows Part 2, HBO is diligently producing a fresh seven-season series that aims to be true to JK Rowling’s original books and features a new cast.
Although Harry, Hermione, and Ron haven’t officially been chosen for their roles yet, speculation about potential actors has circulated. For instance, it’s been suggested that Mark Rylance might be considered for the part of Dumbledore, but no official confirmation has been made regarding this.
Janet McTeer eyed to play Professor McGonagall in Harry Potter TV show
As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve heard through the grapevine that Janet McTeer, known for her roles in shows like Ozark, The Menu, and KAOS, is HBO’s top contender to bring Professor McGonagall to life in the upcoming Harry Potter TV series. Exciting times ahead!
According to reports from mainstream media sources, neither The Trades nor any other major outlet has announced that Paapa Essiedu has been offered the role of Severus Snape. However, Feature First claims they received a tip-off suggesting this before The Hollywood Reporter verified it, and they also claim to have heard about McTeer from the same source.
It’s worth considering McTeer’s statements for now, as she’s both a renowned British actress and currently 63 years old. By the time the series is set to air in 2027, she would be 66 – only one year younger than Maggie Smith was when Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone premiered.
I’m thrilled to share that I’ve learned the upcoming reboot is being penned by none other than Francesca Gardiner! This talented writer has previously contributed to hit shows like Succession, His Dark Materials, and The Man in the High Castle. Can’t wait to see her magic at work on this project!
During a conference earlier this week, Warner Bros Discovery’s streaming chief HB Perrette said: “As you look at ’26 and into ’27, you begin a 10-year journey on the Harry Potter series, which we’re super excited about. And I’d argue, may be the biggest event by the time we get to that series.”
