As a longtime football enthusiast with a soft spot for unique stories, I must say that the saga of Spreen, the KICK streamer who graced the Argentine football pitch, has certainly caught my attention. It’s intriguing to see how the lines between content creation and professional sports are increasingly blurring, especially when it comes to personalities like Jake Paul or Logan Paul in boxing and WWE respectively.

A soccer team from Argentina is currently under scrutiny following an incident where a KICK streamer named Spreen was briefly included in a match, and now, he has issued his reaction.

As a gaming enthusiast over the years, I’ve been amazed to see some top-tier content creators excel not just in the digital world, but also on the sports field. For instance, Jake Paul has proven himself as a formidable boxer, while his brother Logan has earned accolades for his WWE skills. Even some of the Sidemen Charity Match players have caught the attention of English football clubs by showcasing their athletic prowess on the pitch.

In Argentina, popular streamer and YouTuber Ivan ‘Spreen’ Buhajeruk has taken his content creation to a new level. With nearly 8 million subscribers on YouTube, Spreen recently stepped onto the field for a short match, playing for Deportivo Riestra against Vélez Sarsfield. The opportunity came about due to the club’s partnership with an energy drink brand that shares the same name as Spreen.

Initially on the field, Spreen got taken out during a swift sequence of action in the game and didn’t re-enter it afterward.

Currently, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) is examining the club’s recent marketing strategy due to actions that could potentially damage the standing and honesty of Argentine football.

Besides facing criticism from other players, the content creator is also being criticized by Brian Romero, the striker for Velez Sarsfield, who labeled it as an “insult to respect.

In his KICK stream on November 12, Spreen spoke about the ongoing dispute. He stated, “The only thing I can share is that I was presented with a tale, one that I naturally chose to embrace.

As a fan, I’d like to clarify that I didn’t step into someone else’s spot unintentionally, but if anyone felt disrespected in any manner, I sincerely apologize. That was never our intention at all. Previously, I had been informed that the matter was already discussed with Vélez, and we had no intention of taking anyone’s place.

Deportivo Riestra have also apologized after the investigation was opened against them.

Regrettably, our recent marketing strategy seems to have stirred up much unwanted criticism. On behalf of everyone involved, we’d like to offer our heartfelt apologies to those who may have taken offense,” they stated.

The outcome of the investigation is yet uncertain; nevertheless, Spreen has continued to stream and post content on YouTube ever since.
