Keira Knightley’s romance is still going strong following the popular spy thriller, *Black Doves*. While the show has been picked up for a second season, her new movie isn’t performing as well as anticipated.
The new thriller is based on the popular novel *The Woman in Cabin 10*, but the TV adaptation hasn’t been well-received. Despite the book’s success and a lot of hype, critics haven’t been impressed, and the show currently has a low 18% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It premiered on October 10th.
The film currently has a low rating based on just 11 critic reviews, and this is expected to change as more reviews come in. Unfortunately, only two of those initial reviews were positive. These scores were released the same day the film started streaming, and we haven’t seen any audience ratings yet. Early feedback from viewers isn’t very positive either.
As a big thriller fan, I recently checked out *The Woman in Cabin 10*, and honestly, I was pretty disappointed. Nick Shager from The Daily Beast really nailed it when he said it’s a thriller in name only – it felt more like a blunt instrument than a clever, suspenseful story. The characters were incredibly underdeveloped, and the whole thing just lacked any real surprises. It was a bit of a letdown, to be honest.
I really wanted to love *The Woman in Cabin 10* – it starts out so well, with a classic mystery setup! But honestly, it just kind of fell apart as it went on. What began as a clever ‘whodunit’ quickly became increasingly silly, and by the end, it was just completely over the top. The actual mystery was pretty much solved around the one-hour mark, and after that, it devolved into a lot of action and unbelievable plot twists. It’s disappointing because the potential was definitely there.
Courtney Howard points out that the film’s mystery isn’t *who* is responsible – observant viewers will figure that out quickly – but rather *why* the filmmakers keep throwing in misleading clues. She believes the adaptation falters significantly by the middle, losing all suspense well before the movie ends.
Tania Hussain of ‘s praised the adaptation as clever, visually appealing, and gripping, highlighting Keira Knightley’s performance as a key strength. While the plot isn’t groundbreaking and feels somewhat predictable, the thriller is still well-made. Hussain noted, however, that the film doesn’t offer anything truly new and Knightley’s character, Lo, could have been more fully developed.
Karina Adelgaard from Heaven of Horror also gave the movie a positive review, praising its cast and entertainment value. However, she noted that she only needed to watch it once, but clarified this wasn’t a criticism of the film.
