After more than a decade, Vince Gilligan, the creator of the hit show *Breaking Bad*, is back with a new series. Following the success of *Breaking Bad*, he continued exploring that world with the film *El Camino* and the show *Better Call Saul*, which he also wrote and directed. Now, Gilligan is launching *Pluribus*, a sci-fi thriller that again features Rhea Seehorn, a star from *Better Call Saul*. A new trailer for the long-awaited series has just been released, offering a first look at the mysterious project.
When the show *Pluribus* was first announced, its unusual concept immediately grabbed attention: the unhappiest person alive has to save everyone from being happy. Creator Vince Gilligan, known for keeping things under wraps during *Breaking Bad*, used hidden clues and imagery to hint at future storylines. He seems to be doing the same with *Pluribus*. The initial one-minute trailer focuses on the strange and disturbing predicament of the character Carol (Seehorn), who appears to be relentlessly pursued by those determined to make her happy.
Gilligan’s new project, *Pluribus*, appears to be a major departure from his previous work. The preview shows a much bigger scope and hints at a darker, supernatural storyline. Scenes of large groups of people working together to please one woman suggest a science fiction element. The teaser concludes with the President seemingly trying to persuade this woman, Carol, to cooperate, before cutting off suddenly.
With ‘Pluribus,’ Vince Gilligan Wants To Subvert Every Sci-Fi Trope He Can
Vince Gilligan, known for his work on shows like The X-Files, has a history with unusual science fiction. He’s used similar ideas before, as seen in an episode of The X-Files that’s reminiscent of his new show, Pluribus. In an interview with TV Insider, Gilligan explained that he intentionally wanted to keep many details about the show under wraps and play with classic sci-fi themes in unexpected ways. He also mentioned being inspired by shows like The Twilight Zone and the film Invasion of the Body Snatchers, giving viewers a good idea of the kind of story to anticipate.
The most exciting part of this new project is that it brings together Vince Gilligan and Rhea Seehorn, who previously worked together on *Better Call Saul*. They most recently collaborated on the series finale episode, “Water Works,” where Seehorn delivered what many consider her most moving performance. Now, working together again with Seehorn playing a completely new character, *Pluribus* promises to be another standout show for Apple TV+.
