Horror games have become increasingly popular, selling millions of copies and leading to both new game series and revivals of older ones.
The popularity of horror is clearly on the rise. We’ve seen this with the successful return of the *Resident Evil* series, boosted by excellent remakes. Plus, multiplayer games with horror elements—like *Dead by Daylight*, *Lethal Company*, and even *Among Us*—have quickly become global hits.
Honestly, 2025 has been incredible for horror games so far. We’ve gotten some seriously awesome titles this year, and it’s not even over yet! There are still a few more horror games I’m really excited about that are coming out before the end of the year.
Halloween is here, and horror games are super popular right now! Here are a few new titles coming out in 2025 that you can play to get a good scare in before Halloween is over.
8. Last Report
True Pixelated Horror
Developer | Monopixel Games |
---|---|
Platforms | PC |
Release Date | July 11th, 2025 |
The most chilling stories often leave you feeling utterly alone and helpless, forcing you to rely on your own intelligence and strength to overcome terrifying challenges. This is the core idea behind *Last Report*, a new first-person PC game from Monopixel Games.
In the game *Last Report*, you play as a park ranger working the night shift at Among Green Trees National Park. After finishing his routine tasks, the ranger starts to experience unsettling events around his cabin and throughout the park, all while a storm is brewing.
Okay, so playing *Last Report* feels a lot like *Papers, Please*. You basically just click on things and make decisions. As a ranger, you’re pretty limited in what you can *do* – you can open doors, use the radio, hand stuff to other rangers, and spend most of your time at the computer filing reports and checking the park map. It’s all about managing things from your station, not running around and shooting!
What truly sets *Last Report* apart is its incredibly immersive atmosphere. The constant sound of rain creates a sense of unease, making even simple events like a radio transmission or a power cut feel genuinely frightening, just as much as the game’s more visually disturbing moments.
7. Dying Light: The Beast
Becoming the Monster

Monster stories are a Halloween tradition, featuring classics like Frankenstein and the Wolfman. However, these tales rarely let us experience horror from the monster’s perspective—until *Dying Light: The Beast*.
The latest installment in the popular zombie survival horror series *Dying Light*, titled *The Beast*, puts players back in control of Kyle Crane. He’s on the run after being experimented on by the Global Relief Effort, turning him into a dangerous hybrid of human and Volatile.
This game introduces a lot of exciting new ways to play compared to previous installments. Players can now transform Crane into Beast Mode, letting him tear through enemies with his bare hands, toss heavy objects, jump incredibly far, and even create shockwaves using his special abilities.
The game also features a range of frightening new enemy types called Chimeras, designed to provide intense challenges and genuinely scary moments just from how they look. Examples include the Mist, which resembles a wendigo, and the Colossus, a massive enemy wearing a gas mask.
6. Tormented Souls 2
A Successor to Resident Evil 1

When it comes to Halloween, few things are scarier than stories about haunted houses or places overrun with monsters. While many games explore this theme, *Tormented Souls 2*, set to release in 2025, looks particularly promising.
Following up on the 2021 horror game *Tormented Souls*, *Tormented Souls 2* puts players back in control of Caroline Walker. This time, she’s on a desperate mission to rescue her sister Anna from a terrifying convent called Villa Hess – a huge cathedral overrun with horrifying creatures and dangerous nuns.
Playing *Tormented Souls 2* immediately reminded me of the *Resident Evil 1* remake. The game’s fixed camera angles, combined with the grand, cathedral-like design of Villa Hess – which feels very similar to the Spencer Mansion in terms of both its architecture and interior decoration – created that feeling.
The Villa is a beautifully designed but unsettling place, and that same feeling applies to most of the enemies you’ll face in *Tormented Souls 2*. However, if you’re afraid of spiders, you might want to avoid this game, as some of the creatures are particularly creepy.
5. Alien: Rogue Incursion Evolved Edition
A Perfect Organism

While *Alien: Rogue Incursion* first came out as a virtual reality game in late 2024, Survios has now made it available as a regular first-person shooter on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
The Xenomorph is a truly terrifying and fascinating monster, and whether you’re a new fan thanks to shows like *Alien: Earth* or have loved the *Alien* franchise for years, *Rogue Incursion* is a great purchase for Halloween.
In Rogue Incursion, you play as Zula Hendricks, a former Colonial Marine, and her Synth companion, Davis 01. Together, they journey to the icy planet LV-354 Purdan with a mission to uncover Weyland-Yutani’s secret Xenomorph experiments and stop them.
This new Alien game combines the fast-paced shooting of Aliens vs. Predator with the tense, atmospheric environments of Alien: Isolation, making it a really exciting and enjoyable experience – it’s basically a thrilling hunt for alien creatures.
4. Silent Hill f
A New Side of Silent Hill
The *Silent Hill* series helped define the survival horror genre, and it recently gained renewed attention with the 2024 remake of *Silent Hill 2*. The latest installment, *Silent Hill f*, takes the series in some new and unexpected directions.
Unlike the original Silent Hill, which takes place in a foggy town in Maine around today, this story is set in the countryside of Japan in the 1960s.
Unlike other survival horror games, *Silent Hill f* doesn’t include guns. Players must fight using close combat with weapons that can break, and rely on timing counters and dodges – a style similar to games like *Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order* or *Dark Souls*.
Even with the changes, *Silent Hill f* was just as frightening as the original *Silent Hill* games. This is largely due to its incredibly disturbing new monsters, which powerfully represent traumatic experiences and the backstory of the game’s main character, Shimizu Hinako.
3. Little Nightmares 3
Conquering a Nightmare in Co-Op

I’ve always been a fan of Bandai Namco’s *Little Nightmares* series, which has a charmingly creepy art style that reminds me of Tim Burton’s claymation films, like *The Nightmare Before Christmas*.
Supermassive Games is continuing the Little Nightmares series with a new installment, Little Nightmares 3. Players will follow Low and Alone, two new child characters, as they try to survive together in the eerie and frightening world of Nowhere.
Similar to the previous *Little Nightmares* games, *Little Nightmares 3* is mainly about solving puzzles, navigating platforms, and hiding from scary, oversized creatures. However, this new installment will add a new feature: a co-op mode, allowing players to team up and play together.
Low and Alone each have special skills – Low is skilled with a bow and arrow, while Alone uses a wrench. This makes *Little Nightmares 3* a great game to enjoy with friends or family on a spooky Halloween night.
2. Cronos: The New Dawn
A Successor to Dead Space

I’m a huge fan of the *Dead Space* series, but after the disappointing sales of the 2023 *Dead Space* remake and 2022’s *The Callisto Protocol*, it feels like *Cronos: The New Dawn* is now the best chance to keep the sci-fi survival horror genre going.
Cronos, created by the team behind the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake, puts you in the role of the Traveler. She’s tasked with venturing through a desolate landscape overrun by mutated people, all while seeking out valuable Essence and mysterious time rifts.
The game *Cronos* is full of mystery, and it’s more enjoyable if you go in knowing as little as possible. What really makes it special, though, is its fantastic gameplay.
Like *Dead Space*, *Cronos: The New Dawn* requires more than just shooting enemies. You need to completely destroy their bodies – tear them apart and burn the remains – otherwise they’ll combine with corpses to become even more powerful, a bit like the creatures in *The Thing*.
1. Heartworm
The Most Underrated Horror Game of 2025

Developer | Vincent Adinolfi |
---|---|
Platforms | PC |
Release Date | July 31st, 2025 |
While big-budget horror games like *Silent Hill f* and *Cronos: The New Dawn* have been grabbing headlines, one of the most impressive horror games of the year – and one of the best I’ve played recently – is *Heartworm*, created by Vincent Adinolfi.
Heartworm is a game intentionally created to feel like the classic PlayStation 1 survival horror games, such as the original Resident Evil and Silent Hill. It achieves this through a retro visual style, featuring blocky, pixelated graphics, static camera perspectives, and pre-rendered environments.
It’s stunning to watch, particularly in the dark. Even though I didn’t play the original PlayStation, as a horror fan, I found *Heartworm* really stood out because of its story, the atmosphere it creates, and the creepy creatures in it.
Heartworm is a moving story about Sam, a young photographer who tries to connect with people she’s lost at an eerie house. This journey takes her into strange worlds created from her own painful memories, where she faces bizarre creatures like monsters made of static, enormous spiders, and wolves covered in moss. Sam can only protect herself by taking pictures.
