With TwitchCon nearing, Twitch is reassuring streamers about event safety, especially as some broadcasters are choosing not to attend.
TwitchCon, the annual celebration of the streaming platform, returns October 17-19, 2025, in San Diego, California. This year marks the tenth anniversary of the event, but surprisingly, some of Twitch’s most popular creators won’t be there.
As a big fan of Twitch, I was really bummed to hear that so many of my favorite streamers – like Valkyrae, QTCinderella, Pokimane, Hasan, and Asmongold – decided to skip TwitchCon this year. They all shared that they were worried about their safety, and honestly, it’s a little scary to think about why they’d feel that way. I really hope things get better so they feel comfortable attending in the future.
Many creators expressed concern about possible violence, both against themselves and their audiences. QTCinderella specifically mentioned the tragic murder of Japanese streamer Airi Sato, who was fatally stabbed during a live stream by someone who disliked her, back in March 2025.
Hasan mentioned the September 10th shooting of political commentator Charlie Kirk and expressed concern that publicly interacting with his fans could put them at risk if someone with violent intentions were to target him.
Despite Twitch CEO Dan Clancy discussing safety issues in a September stream, TwitchCon faced increasing criticism and saw more streamers withdraw as concerns grew.
Twitch releases statement as TwitchCon security fears rise
On October 8, 2025, Twitch addressed growing safety concerns at TwitchCon in a blog post, reaffirming their commitment to security. The post explained the steps they’re taking to ensure the safety of everyone attending the event.
As a TwitchCon attendee, I was really glad to hear Twitch was promising top-notch security. They said they’d have thorough checks at every entrance and really strict rules about who gets in – which definitely made me feel safer knowing they were taking precautions.
The event will include a central command center with skilled security personnel who will monitor the entire venue and quickly respond to any issues that arise.
Twitch confirmed that anyone permanently banned from the platform won’t be allowed to attend TwitchCon. They also stated that anyone who violates the event’s rules will be removed and may be banned from all future Twitch events, including TwitchCon.

Twitch announced it’s working with the San Diego Police Department and will have armed officers, along with security guards and plainclothes officers, at the event.
We constantly update and improve our security measures using the latest information and industry standards. We also collaborate with event attendees to address any specific security concerns they may have.
TwitchCon San Diego is all about bringing the Twitch community together and having a great time. We’re working hard to make this year’s event the best one so far.
Twitch released a statement after receiving criticism about past TwitchCon events. Several people, including streamer Asmongold, have said they won’t attend future events due to safety concerns. Previous incidents included a streamer suffering a broken back in a foam pit and another streamer, Nmplol, experiencing sexual harassment from another attendee.

This recent event was particularly shocking, and thankfully, it was all caught on video. Following the incident, Nmp voiced his disappointment with Twitch, stating they never reached out to him regarding the assault after TwitchCon ended.
Despite previous concerns, Twitch is committed to ensuring TwitchCon is a safe and secure event for everyone this year, and is actively increasing its safety measures.
