Many are eagerly awaiting details about the premiere of *Starfleet Academy*, and recent reports suggest some important information has just been revealed.
The new *Starfleet Academy* series features both familiar and new faces from the *Star Trek* universe. Like with any big production, details sometimes slip out, and it appears an actress accidentally revealed the show’s premiere date. ComicBook.com and other websites spotted the information before it was taken down.
Gina Yashere May Have Accidentally Leaked The Release Date Of Starfleet Academy
Gina Yashere is thrilled to be playing Lura Thok, a character who’s half-Klingon and half-Jem’Hadar, in the new series and can’t wait for fans to see it. Interestingly, she may have accidentally revealed the release month – January 2026 – in an Instagram post. That post has since been changed to remove the date.

It seems someone at Paramount+ may have asked Gina Yashere to change what she posted, but the real question is why. Was it because she accidentally revealed that *Star Trek: Starfleet Academy* might come out in January 2026, with an announcement expected this weekend at New York Comic Con? It’s possible, but she could have also edited the post if that wasn’t the correct release date. We probably won’t know the truth for a while, but it’s fun to guess for now.
Will We Get New Star Trek To Kick Off The New Year?
If *Star Trek: Starfleet Academy* does come out in January, it wouldn’t be shocking. They finished filming the first season way back in February, and they’ve already started working on the second. Considering that, I think the first season could easily be finished and released at the beginning of 2026, even with the time needed for editing and finishing touches.
The character of the Doctor from *Voyager* is returning to Starfleet Academy in the new *Star Trek* series, and it sounds like he’s undergone a significant transformation. I’m really looking forward to seeing how his story unfolds!
Even though a show might be finished, Paramount+ won’t simply release it without careful consideration. They’ve invested significant time and resources into *Starfleet Academy* – a series featuring beloved characters and acclaimed actors – and wouldn’t launch it without a proper plan.
Considering the talented cast and the effort put into this new series, Paramount+ will likely choose a release date that maximizes viewership. Releasing it during the busy holiday season probably wouldn’t be the smartest move. I expect we’ll see it premiere sometime in January, or possibly held for the spring TV season. I’m really looking forward to watching it on Paramount+, and I hope we learn the release date soon!
