Timothée Chalamet has become seriously dedicated to playing ping-pong. It started with preparing for his role as a confident table-tennis player in Josh Safdie’s *Marty Supreme*, but he seems to have genuinely fallen in love with the sport. As he told *The Hollywood Reporter*, he’s been setting up ping-pong tables everywhere he films. He had one in London while making *Wonka*, in Budapest and Jordan for *Dune 2*, in Abu Dhabi, and even at the Cannes Film Festival for *The French Dispatch*. After filming *The French Dispatch*, he rented an Airbnb near Saint-Tropez just so he could take lessons and play with a view of the water.
Timothée Chalamet dedicated six years to preparing for this role, starting in 2018 when he first discussed the project with the director, long before funding was secured, and continuing through filming in September 2024. During the COVID lockdown, he transformed his living room into a ping-pong practice space and even used the time to improve his musical skills for his role as Bob Dylan in the film *A Complete Unknown*. He assured *The Hollywood Reporter* that all of this is well-documented and will be revealed. He described these projects as uniquely allowing him years of preparation, and confirmed he was working on both simultaneously. One can only wonder if he channeled Bob Dylan while perfecting his ping-pong skills – a question that remains unanswered.
