Robert Patrick, known for his role in the show, recently discussed the possibility of returning. He became a main cast member in Season 8, following David Duchovny’s smaller role after Season 7.
Initially, many viewers doubted Robert Patrick’s ability to fill the shoes of Agent John Doggett, following David Duchovny’s departure. However, he eventually won fans over as Gillian Anderson’s new partner, appearing in 40 episodes across seasons 8 and 9. Despite not being involved in the recent revival, Patrick recently discussed the possibility of returning as FBI Special Agent John Doggett in the upcoming series produced by Ryan Coogler.
“That is my favorite character of all time!” the actor shared when The X-Files was brought up.
You know, I’ve been thinking about the character and it would be really fascinating to see what he’s been up to in the years since we last saw him. It’s funny, they hadn’t asked me to reprise the role before, and honestly, it was always down to my schedule – I just hadn’t had the time!
You know, I’ve always been a huge fan of this character, and Patrick really gets to the heart of why. He explained to me that what he loved most was the character’s incredible strength and toughness, but underneath it all, he was a genuinely good person – a real heart of gold. It’s that combination that makes him so special, and honestly, it’s why I think so many of us connect with him too.
There haven’t been any recent updates about the planned reboot. However, Ryan Coogler has confirmed the project is still in development. Following the successful release of his film, *Sinners*, earlier this year, he stated he’s focused on all his current series. As of now, no actors have been cast for the reboot.
Gillian Anderson Teased Her X-Files Return
Even though Patrick is involved in the new *X-Files* reboot, the show won’t happen without Gillian Anderson, who plays Scully. Anderson has talked about potentially returning to the role several times, most recently in an interview with Sean O’Connell.
Anderson hinted she might reprise her role as Scully in a potential *X-Files* revival directed by Ryan Coogler, possibly within a few years, if the project moves forward. She expressed enthusiasm about working with him again, saying she’d be open to returning under his direction.
The sci-fi series *The X-Files* originally ran from 1993 to 2002, starring Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny in the main roles for its initial seasons. Throughout the show’s run, Anderson appeared in 2017 episodes, and Duchovny played his character, Fox Mulder, in 193. While both actors were central to the series, Duchovny later reprised his role for the show’s revival seasons in 2015 and 2018.
I’m still so excited about the possibility of a new *X-Files* reboot! Even though we don’t know when it will come out or what it’ll be about, the show has always had a really loyal fanbase – like me! And it’s awesome to see it getting a lot of attention again on streaming platforms recently; it was great seeing it trending for a while there.
The X-Files is currently available for streaming on Disney+.
