Amazon Quietly Removes Controversial James Bond Artwork Following Online Backlash

Amazon Prime Video quickly took down new promotional images that showed James Bond without his signature gun. This happened after fans realized the classic artwork for the series had been changed digitally.

As a longtime Bond fan, I was really surprised to see that some of the classic movie posters in the UK had been updated! Apparently, the guns that were originally featured in posters for films like Sean Connery’s *Dr. No* and Pierce Brosnan’s *GoldenEye* had been digitally removed. It caused a huge stir online, especially since it happened right before James Bond Day on October 5th. It turns out the original posters were swapped out for ones using actual photos from the movies.

Other promotional posters took a more subtle approach. For example, in the poster for Roger Moore’s *A View to a Kill*, his arms were strangely elongated to keep the gun from being visible, and in a *Spectre* poster, Daniel Craig’s weapon was completely removed digitally. As expected, the internet responded with a wave of memes, often replacing Pierce Brosnan’s gun with images of food. British actor Rufus Jones even joked that the altered posters made Bond appear to be making an inappropriate gesture.

Writer Scott McCrea strongly criticized recent changes to James Bond novels, calling them “cultural vandalism.” Many fans online agreed, sparking a debate about the future of the franchise now that it’s owned by Amazon MGM Studios. With Denis Villeneuve set to direct the next 007 film, some fear these edits foreshadow a larger shift in the series’ artistic direction. It’s unclear whether these changes were a simple mistake or indicate a new approach to marketing the franchise under Amazon’s ownership.

James Bond is much more than just iconic movie posters. The character originated in Ian Fleming’s novels, where we first met 007 enjoying martinis while navigating glamorous casinos and dangerous spy missions. Over the years, several actors have brought Bond to life on screen, including Sean Connery, who set the standard with his sophisticated portrayal, Roger Moore, known for his charm, Pierce Brosnan, who updated the character for the 90s, and Timothy Dalton, who offered a grittier, more intense take.

The Search For A New James Bond Begins in 2026

Daniel Craig breathed new life into James Bond, starting with *Casino Royale* in 2006 and finishing with *No Time to Die* in 2021. He modernized the character, while still delivering the action and iconic attitude fans expect. The search for the next 007 will begin in 2026, and director Denis Villeneuve and the studio are looking for a very particular actor to take on the role.

The next James Bond won’t be Daniel Craig, and the filmmakers are searching for a new, relatively unknown actor. They’ve decided Bond will continue to be a British male, limiting the search to actors from the UK and Ireland. The team is looking for someone who embodies the original Bond character from Ian Fleming’s novels: physically imposing – over six feet tall – and a somewhat stoic, even unremarkable, personality despite being a highly skilled and dangerous operative.

Bond 26 does not have a release date at this time.
