Next year is a big one for Resident Evil – it’s the 30th anniversary of the popular video game series, and a new movie is coming out! The film will be directed by Zach Cregger, known for his work on ‘Weapons and Barbarian,’ and production is starting soon. Cregger has also been adding to the cast.
Zach Cherry, known for his Emmy-nominated role in Apple TV+’s Severance, is joining the cast of Resident Evil. He’ll be playing a scientist working at a hospital. Viewers may also recognize him from smaller parts in shows and movies like Spider-Man: Homecoming, Shang-Chi, and the Fallout TV series, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
Kali Reis, known for her role in *True Detective: Night Country* and her background as a boxer, is joining the cast of *Resident Evil*. Sources say the character she’ll play was originally written for a man. Johnno Wilson, who was in Season 2 of *Twisted Metal*, is also set to appear in the series.
Austin Abrams, known for his work in horror, stars in the new Resident Evil movie, but he’s playing an original character, not one from the games. Director Tyler Cregger has said the film’s atmosphere will be inspired by Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4, and that it will continue the overall story from those games, even without using the same characters.
I’m sticking to the established guidelines and not using any of the main characters already featured in the games,” explained Cregger. “I believe the movie stays true to the spirit of the franchise and doesn’t go beyond what the games themselves have already done. I’m playing it safe and staying within the boundaries.
Filming for the new Resident Evil movie starts later this month in Prague, and it will be released in theaters on September 18, 2026. The next Resident Evil game, titled Requiem, will be available on Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC starting February 27, 2026.
