Marvel and The Muppets Officially Unite in Historic Comic Book Crossover

are headed to the Marvel Universe this September in The Muppets Take the Marvel Universe #1.

This special collection of comics is released to honor . It brings together many of the best artists in the comic book world and includes beloved characters from both Marvel Comics and The Muppet Show. While Marvel has featured The Muppets in comics before, this release could be their most exciting collaboration yet.

A recent announcement from Marvel Comics gives us a better look at The Muppets Take the Marvel Universe. Talented creators like Chip Zdarsky (an Eisner Award winner and huge Muppets fan) and artist Pete Woods, along with Ashley Allen, MacKenzie Cadenhead, Kyle Starks, David Baldeon, Mike Henderson, and others will be bringing The Muppets’ classic brand of silliness to the Marvel world! This new special issue builds on the popularity of last year’s Muppet-themed variant covers – which celebrated their 70th anniversary – and more Muppets appearances are planned in other Marvel comics throughout September.

The Muppets Bring Their Madness to the Marvel Universe

The first issue of The Muppets Take the Marvel Universe presents several short stories blending characters from both the Muppets and Marvel worlds. According to Marvel’s website, one story involves Rowlf the Dog being kidnapped by Mojo to promote a new streaming service. Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Spider-Man, Black Panther, Wolverine, Emma Frost, and others will join forces to rescue him, in a story written by Chip Zdarsky and illustrated by Pete Woods.

Plus, there’s a funny sci-fi story featuring Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker teaming up with Bruce Banner and Hank Pym at Muppet Labs! They’re attempting a risky experiment with Gamma Rays and Pym Particles – and things are sure to go boom! This explosive tale is written by Kyle Starks with art by Mike Henderson.

The story gives almost all the important characters from different franchises a moment to stand out, even Clea and Doctor Strange. For example, when Clea gets sick with a magical virus and Doctor Strange can’t help, an unexpected hero appears: the Swedish Chef! This funny adventure is written by Ashley Allen and illustrated by Paco Medina.

The buzz around this project isn’t just from fans of Marvel and The Muppets – it’s generating a lot of excitement overall! The unpredictable nature of The Muppets promises some really fun and chaotic experiences for the Marvel heroes as they try to solve whatever happens. Even though it’s a single, self-contained story, there’s a strong connection between people who create comics, those who read them, and fans of The Muppets. Writer Chip Zydarsky has shared his thoughts on being involved with this unique collaboration.

I know with this amazing opportunity comes a lot of responsibility. I won’t let down Kermit, Fozzie, or Animal – just like Spider-Man didn’t want to disappoint Uncle Ben. I’m incredibly excited to write for Miss Piggy, who I think is one of the most iconic characters ever created and truly resonates with people of all ages. Plus, I also got to work on Deadpool! And Pete Woods’ artwork is absolutely fantastic; it’s a joy to see his version of these characters together,” said Chip Zdarsky.

Will we start seeing The Muppets appear in comic books, similar to how Godzilla has recently? It’s possible! Currently, Marvel and The Muppets Studio appear to be collaborating very successfully.

Leigh Slaughter, Vice President of The Muppets Studio, expressed excitement about a special collaboration that will blend the fun and characters of The Muppets with the Marvel Universe. She noted the timing is particularly significant as it coincides with the 50th anniversary of ‘The Muppet Show.’

You can find The Muppets Take the Marvel Universe #1 as a digital copy on Marvel Unlimited starting September 23rd, or in printed form at most places that sell comics.
