S&P 500 Could Surge to 9,000, Say J.P. Morgan Private Bank Analysts – Here’s When

According to J.P. Morgan Private Bank, the S&P 500 could reach 9,000, driven by the increasing use of artificial intelligence and strong, ongoing company profits.

According to strategist Kriti Gupta, the market has seen six straight quarters of strong earnings growth – increasing by more than 10% each time. Globally, earnings growth sped up from 15.3% in late 2025 to 22.6% in early 2026, marking the biggest jump in over four years.

According to the analyst, the market could reach 9,000 by mid-2027, but this depends on artificial intelligence becoming more widespread and boosting productivity and profits across all industries, not just the tech sector.

Cloud companies are investing over $800 billion each year in artificial intelligence, and that number is expected to grow to $1.16 trillion by 2027. Experts believe this surge in AI investment could lead to a period of strong economic growth, similar to the productivity boom of the late 1990s when the stock market saw five years of over 20% returns.

According to J.P. Morgan Private Bank:

Although it’s not the most likely scenario, the S&P 500 could potentially climb to 9,000 by mid-2027. While a roughly 22% increase from where it is now might seem hopeful, it’s still a realistic possibility.

The main risks right now are increasing bond yields – specifically, the yield on 10-year Treasury bonds rose by over 0.4% in May – and continued global political instability. However, analysts believe the recent dip in semiconductor and growth stocks is a normal and positive correction, setting the stage for future gains.
