The creators of Umamusume: Pretty Derby were surprised and delighted to see so many international fans singing, dancing, and cheering to the song “Umapyoi Densetsu.”
Okay, so as a huge Umamusume fan, I can tell you that “Umapyoi Densetsu” is the song of the series. Seriously, it’s everywhere! It’s got this super energetic dance, really fast-paced singing, and clips of people performing it just blew up online. But honestly? It’s just a total earworm – incredibly catchy, and that’s why everyone loves it!
The team who brought the popular horse girl theme song to English-speaking audiences says seeing fans around the world enjoy it has been a key indicator of the series’ international success.
Uma fans’ love for Umapyoi left devs stunned
According to marketing staff member Shoten, fans at Anime Expo 2025 showed their love for Umamusume by enthusiastically singing, dancing, and chanting along to ‘Umapyoi Densetsu’ at the Cygames booth. Seeing it firsthand, Shoten was struck by how much the fans connected with the series.
As a big fan, “Umapyoi Densetsu” has always been one of the most iconic songs from the series! It blew up even more when the English version came out in 2025, and I was so happy Cygames made an official English release. What made it really special was that they had the original Japanese voice actors perform it – it just felt authentic and amazing!
The English version of the song was developed, in part, to help promote the game to players outside of Japan. According to Shoten, some Japanese phrases were deliberately kept in the song so that players worldwide could share a common experience and understand the same reactions.
Okay, so Umamusume is really blowing up internationally! It’s wild – I’ve seen cosplayers showing their love at the Hipodromo de Monterrico in Peru, which is awesome. But it doesn’t stop there! Fans actually got together and restored Mejiro Ardan’s grave in China, which is super touching. And get this – they raised over $600,000 to rebuild horse stables back in Japan! It’s amazing to see the community coming together like that.
Uma’s popularity has reached even the gaming world, inspiring fans to create custom cars themed around her in Forza Horizon 6, and even a dedicated Dungeons & Dragons game.
