Turn-based military strategy RPG Axeras is coming to PC via Steam

Inverse Atelier has announced a new strategy RPG called Axeras, where players take turns making moves. You’ll be able to find and play the game on PC through Steam.

The game is set in a modern military world, and you’ll command a platoon made up of different units – from basic infantry to powerful vehicles like tanks and APCs. A unique feature will allow you to capture and add enemy soldiers to your ranks, though be warned: the game also includes permadeath, meaning lost units are gone for good.

Just so you know, this game is being developed by a small indie team in Malaysia, but they’re heavily inspired by Japan and are planning to release it there first. They’ve already put out a Japanese press release announcing a demo coming next month, in November 2025. Also, while the game will support English, Japanese, Korean, and both Traditional and Simplified Chinese, only the Japanese language will have voice acting at launch, as of right now. This could change, of course.

AXERAS is a turn-based strategy RPG with a military theme. It’s inspired by classic games but tries to update the genre by offering a fresh perspective on war and how battles are fought.

Yohannes Trofyeld, a Captain serving in the Evestrian Armed Forces, is unexpectedly thrown into the Evestrian Civil War. He’s now faced with a difficult choice: remain loyal to the government he serves or support his own people. With the fate of his team resting on his decisions, the war will determine whether he becomes a hero or is consumed and becomes a demon.

  • Combined Arms Combat

    • Utilize a wide range of military equipment and ground troops, request air support and drone strikes, and keep in mind: being able to move quickly is crucial for achieving victory.

  • Unit abilities shape the battlefield

    • Having special skills and using them effectively can be the deciding factor between success and failure, even life and death. It truly makes all the difference.

  • Capture or Kill

    • You can either eliminate enemies on the battlefield or take them prisoner. While killing them quickly solves the immediate problem, capturing enemy units allows you to add them to your own forces. Killing is an efficient short-term way to remove the threat, but captured units can be recruited to bolster your ranks.

  • XP, Rank and Permadeath

    • As units endure combat and gain experience, they are advanced to higher ranks and unlock new abilities.

  • War is about map control

    • Defeating your opponents isn’t the ultimate goal. To truly dominate, you need to fiercely contest every part of the map, securing Strategic Zones or blocking the enemy from taking important locations. This control will give you the advantage.

  • Decisions have consequences

    • As I’m playing, I’ve noticed that every choice I make actually *matters*. Sometimes the results are obvious right away, but other times they don’t show up until much later in the story. It’s cool because there aren’t really any ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ answers – it all comes down to what I think is the right thing to do, or what feels like a truly awful decision. It’s all about my own moral compass, really. It makes the game super immersive! I’m constantly second-guessing myself!

  • Dynamic story and replayable campaign

    • When I play Acorns Company, it’s all about the choices *I* make. Seriously, every time I start a new game, things play out differently. The decisions I make create totally different scenarios, and that actually changes how the game ends. It’s cool because no two playthroughs are ever quite the same!

  • Immersive Hand-drawn Cutscenes

    • The world of Acorns Company is brought to life through charming, hand-drawn animated cutscenes, created in a modern Japanese anime style.
