Marathon review bombed by Destiny 2 fans as Bungie ends development

After Bungie announced they’re stopping active development on Destiny 2, many disappointed fans have been leaving negative reviews for the game Marathon.

Destiny 2 will stop receiving updates after June 9th, Bungie announced on May 21st. This marks the end of development for the game after nine years.

Shortly after, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reported that Bungie is planning substantial layoffs. He also stated that the company is currently prioritizing development of the game Marathon instead of immediately starting work on Destiny 3.

Honestly, all this news has really upset a lot of people. I’ve been seeing a ton of negative reviews for Marathon lately, and it seems like fans are just using them to show how disappointed they are.

Destiny 2 fans spam Marathon with negative reviews on Steam

Following the announcement, Marathon’s Steam page was bombarded with negative reviews, with many players seemingly blaming the extraction shooter for Destiny 2’s demise.

One player review asked, “Why did Destiny have to be ruined for this?” They explained that Destiny felt like a community and a source of great memories, and they couldn’t understand why it had changed, seemingly for the sake of a new game called Marathon.

Another person said they were confused, especially since the Destiny game series was cancelled to concentrate on this very expensive project.

Many reviewers felt that Destiny 2 was neglected in order to focus on developing Marathon. This led to comments like, “Destiny 2 suffered because of this new game,” and “The effort put into Marathon wasn’t worth losing what we had in Destiny 2.”

Despite the criticism, many people have also spoken up to support Marathon, encouraging others to ignore the negative comments.

“Good game, people review bombing because Destiny 2 is finished, ignore them,” said another player.

It’s important to understand that Bungie isn’t shutting down Destiny 2 because of the Marathon project. Their announcement focuses on a fresh start for the company and their plans to start developing their next games.

While Destiny 3 isn’t currently in development, Bungie is focusing on new projects and will continue to support and update Marathon for the foreseeable future.
