Ahead of the movie premiere of The Mandalorian and Grogu, another Star Wars show is gaining popularity on Disney+. The Book of Boba Fett, a somewhat controversial miniseries that connected seasons 2 and 3 of The Mandalorian, is currently the tenth most-watched show on Disney+ in the United States.
While not a glowing review, many dedicated fans were let down by The Book of Boba Fett. The show doesn’t fully focus on Boba Fett himself, and around the halfway point, it starts to feel more like an extension of The Mandalorian Season 2.
It seems The Book of Boba Fett is currently trending on Disney+ because fans are revisiting it before the next installment of The Mandalorian. While the show wasn’t well-received overall, several episodes are crucial to the story of Din Djarin and Grogu, making them necessary viewing for anyone rewatching The Mandalorian.
The Book of Boba Fett Sees Streaming Surge
The series The Book of Boba Fett follows the iconic bounty hunter Boba Fett and his partner, Fennec Shand, as they try to take over Jabba the Hutt’s criminal empire on Tatooine. Created by Jon Favreau, the show stars Temuera Morrison as Boba Fett and Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand, and features Pedro Pascal returning as Din Djarin.
Critics had a mixed reaction to The Book of Boba Fett, giving it a 64% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is considered ‘fresh’ but not overwhelmingly so. While opinions among fans were also split, they generally rated the show lower, with a user approval score of 48% on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite this, some viewers still enjoyed it.
Will Boba Fett Return to Star Wars?
Boba Fett used to be a hugely popular character in the Star Wars saga, even though he didn’t appear much in the first three Star Wars films. However, the recent Disney+ series The Book of Boba Fett seems to have changed fans’ opinions, and possibly Disney’s as well.
Daniel Morrison shared that after filming ‘The Book of Boba Fett,’ Lucasfilm told him his character might not be needed for future projects, saying he’d been ‘put on the shelf’ but could potentially return. He admitted this was disappointing, as he’d hoped to continue with the show alongside Ming-Na Wen for several seasons. Despite the outcome, he was grateful for the experience and happy to have been brought back to the role after so many years.
Morrison felt overlooked, explaining, “I’m just being put on hold, like a jar of peaches. But when the time comes, I’ll be even better.”
The Book of Boba Fett is streaming now on Disney+.
