One of Glen Powell’s lesser watched titles will soon be available to stream at home.
Since gaining recognition in the 2022 hit Top Gun: Maverick, Glen Powell has quickly become a sought-after actor in Hollywood. He’s since starred in popular films like The Running Man, Twisters, and Anyone But You. He has several exciting projects coming up, including a new season of the Hulu series Chad Powers and a role in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming sci-fi movie, The Great Beyond.
Colin Powell’s documentary, How to Make a Killing, will be available to stream on HBO Max starting June 19th. It will also air on the HBO channel on June 20th at 8 PM Eastern time.
The new film, How to Make a Killing, is being distributed by A24, a popular independent film company. A24 has a deal with HBO Max where all of their movies become available on the streaming service after they’ve been shown in theaters and through other streaming platforms. This partnership was recently extended.
This darkly funny movie from A24 stars Jason Powell as Becket Redfellow, a working-class man on a mission to get the inheritance his rich family cut him off from when he was born. John Patton Ford directed the film, and it also features Margaret Qualley, Ed Harris, Sean C. Michael, and Jessica Henwick.
I have to be honest, How to Make a Killing didn’t really make a splash when it hit theaters earlier this year. It only brought in about $21 million worldwide, which isn’t great, even considering it came out during that slow period in late February. Honestly, knowing how much they probably paid Powell to star, that number feels even lower. It makes you wonder if it really paid off for the studio.
Reviews for ‘How to Make a Killing’ were quite varied. It received a 44% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating that less than half of critics enjoyed it. Gregory Nussen of ScreenRant, for example, gave it a 4 out of 10 and described the film as a mildly amusing black comedy.
With its release on HBO Max, How to Make a Killing has a good opportunity to find a wider audience. Fans of the director’s previous work might be curious enough to check it out. It remains to be seen if the film will become a streaming hit when it’s released next month.
