Blue Moon is making its beer blue because the actual lunar blue moon won’t be

Blue Moon has announced that bars across the United States will be serving a special blue version of the beer as an apology on behalf of the actual blue moon.

Although it’s called a blue moon, it doesn’t actually change the moon’s color. Instead, it happens when there are two full moons within the same calendar month.

Sometimes, weather conditions make the moon look bluish, reddish, or orange. However, the phrase “blue moon” doesn’t actually refer to the moon’s color.

To make things right, Blue Moon has officially apologized for the issue and will be changing its beer to a bright blue color for customers.

Blue Moon issues apology on behalf of the real moon by selling blue beer

Blue Moon recently clarified that the upcoming ‘blue moon’ won’t actually appear blue, playfully suggesting the moon is misleading people about its color.

They pointed out that Blue Moon beer isn’t actually blue—it’s more of an amber color, which is almost the opposite of blue on the color spectrum. They acknowledged this might be upsetting to learn.

To address the issue, the beer brand will be offering a blue-colored version of its Belgian White wheat ale from May 29th to 31st.

Molson Coors is temporarily changing the color of Blue Moon beer to match the blue moon in the sky. “We can’t change the actual moon, but we can change the beer in your glass,” explained Elizabeth Hitch, VP of Marketing for Above Premium Beer.

She explained it as fulfilling a promise the night sky often falls short of. They aimed to transform a rare and special occasion – something that happens ‘once in a blue moon’ – into a shared experience people could enjoy with a good beer.

I’m so excited! That awesome blue beer is going to be available in a ton of places across the US – over 30 markets, actually! They’re rolling it out to big cities like Los Angeles, New York, Atlanta, Miami, Boston, Houston, Dallas, and Chicago, which is fantastic news for those of us who’ve been waiting.

Blue Moon is releasing a blue-colored beer as more brands try unique marketing strategies to attract customers, like Pabst Blue Ribbon’s recent partnership with Godzilla for a limited-edition 99-pack.

Columbia Sportswear, an outdoor clothing company, recently released a small batch of beer brewed with ingredients filtered through bear waste.
